GARAGE HEAT!!!

It does not take much to get me excited! I ordered a simple wall mounted heater for my garage, and after two days of freezing rain, I have just finished washing/waxing my cars in my nice toasty garage! The garage was insulated when the house was built but never had a heat source. Actually a bit warm now!

I think I need a coolie cup for my beer can!

Oh, before anyone asks, I drink Bud Light, not Miller Light. I just liked the poster!

What was your water source? I assume that you used the bucket method?

To wash, I ran a hose just under the garage door long enough to wash the car. Then I closed the garage the rest of the way, and withing a half hour the car and floor was dry and I was selecting my wax!

I really DO need a coolie cup!

Sorry!! I don't know what I was thinking!! I bought it on eBay and it is sold at Sam's as well.

I took a gamble on this, in as much as it is made in China. Actually works very well! Heats the garage up rather well (two car). It was about 33 degrees outside and I was working in the garage in a t-shirt!

Smart move. Isn't it sweet to have a warm garage in the winter ??

If you look in the corner on the floor, you'll see the little portable electric heater that keeps our MINIs and us happy all winter long here in cold, central Maryland (not to mention my hundreds of dollars of detailing supplies). It's not a power guzzler but it keeps the garage at about 50 degrees, even on winter's coldest days. Having an insulated garage helps, too.

Garage has changed a bit since this pic was taken but the heater is still the same and still doing its job.

CR&PW&JB,

I see you have the RACETEC floor tiles (spelling). How is that working for you? I can't help but think that all the crap I drag in (salt, dirt, etc) would fall between the seams of the tiles and create a mess and a half!

Let me know! I love the idea! Looks great!

Yeah, those are the RaceDeck floor tiles, Rex.

They've been down for almost two years now and yeah, we get a lot of salt and road grime here in the winters. They fit so snuggly, nothing gets between the cracks. It's like one big tile, they fit so well.

And they're easy to clean, too. I sweep the garage out every couple weeks and every couple months I give it a good vacuuming and then damp mop it. After a mopping, it looks brand new again.

I definitely L O V E that flooring !

Wow, I'm surprised a 1200 watt heater can make that much difference, your garage must be really well insulated. I mean my hair dryer has more wattage than that!

One year I had to do some engine work on my E-type in the winter and I had 2 heaters running and it barely seemed to make a difference, and yes, my gargae is insulated, although not as well I'd guess.

cr-and-pw-and-jb does that racedeck flooring snap, crackle and pop when you walk or drive on it? My neighbor put something similar (may even have been the same stuff) down in his garage and his does, like crazy!

Nope... no Rice Krispy noises from my floor.

There are other, less expensive (you may prefer the word "cheaper) floor tiles out there.

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

I think he got his at Costco, so no idea what brand he got and even tho I really like the looks and the way you can pattern it to your taste, the noise was an instant turn off to me, I'd rather just have good smooth concrete...........

Yeah, concrete is nice, too, I guess.

Me, I prefer the nice, QUIET tiles. And I like the appearance a bit more than concrete:

Mark,

ANYTIME! Let me know when you want to and I will get the beer and popcorn ready! As you can see in the pic, I have tools! As long as we are not doing a rebuild, we will be fine with the tools!

Let me know. My house is your house! Bring Lois, my wife would like her!

MINIDave,

I had to laugh when I read, "My hair dryer...." I can't even remember the last time I used a hair dryer! It has to be in the early 80's if I had to guess.

But anyway, you are correct. This is a low powered heater and takes a good 20 minutes to knock the chill out of the garage, and maybe another 20 minutes for it to be t-shirt temps. And yes, my garage is insulated very well, to include an insulated door. Without the heater, my car usually says the temp is no colder that 47 degrees when I leave in the mornings.

Oh, and I don't use the heater all the time, only plan on using it when I go out to tinker.

Very nice! Out at my parents we have a 30'x40' Shed thats fully insulated, epoxy painted floor, and a big ole propane warehouse heater hanging from the ceiling. We keep it at 40* in the winter until we want to work in it and you go out 15minutes before you start and turn the thermostat to 65 and then its all nice and cozy!

also, you don't need a coolie up, just drink a little faster lol

CR/PW/JB,

How much did the flooring cost for your garage? Is it a 2-car? Just ball-park figure.

yeah, that's a 2-car garage. I covered an area 15' x 17'. The cost of the times was about $1100, give or take.

Those are RaceDeck brand tiles. Probably the most expensive tiles on the market. You can use less expensive tiles, but IMO, they are not quite as good as the RaceDeck tiles.
