Any great roads/restaurants nearby?

I'm picking Waldo up on 7/2 Wednesday afternoon and wondered if anyone can recommend a good route north out of STL? I gotta believe there's some fun roads near the river?

Also any restaurant near Mini of St Louis, or north of there? (I live in Urbana, IL so will be motoring northward up 170 then east on 270...not that a little drive out of my way for a highly recommended place wouldn't be possible! ). Could also go 64 east through town to 55/70.

My favorite cuisines are Mexican and Chinese, but a good Indian restaurant would be interesting as well. Also just a good place to eat (non-chain) would be interesting.

Not a big fan of Italian, and I've been to "The Hill", so no need to suggest that type.

Thanks!

Check with DOT from IL and MO before you get left to confirm river roads are not closed due to flooding

Not sure what time you will be heading back, but if you are going north you could go to Goody Goody Diner on 5900 Natural Bridge Road. It's pretty close to Highway 70 and just a little bit out of your way. They close at 2pm though.

Or maybe go through Alton, Illinois and hit Fast Eddies Bon Aire.

There's the Posh Nosh in Clayton. A great Kosher deli.

Companion Bakehouse has the great sandwiches.

Kaldi's Coffee House has great vegetarian food.

Blueberry Hill in University City has one of the best burgers you'll find.

Chuy's in Dogtown for great Mexican food. It's closing on July 3rd for good and will be sorely missed. Collateral damage of the economy and Highway 40 closure.

Some of the best Chinese in St. Louis is House of Wong in Clayton.

Of course, there's a ton of great places downtown if you are decide to go through there. The Shriner national convention is here this week so watch the road for a bunch of cars even tinier than the MINI!

For more info on any of these restaurants go to saucemagazine.com or contact me.

Lulu's in University City on Olive St has great Chinese. Very authentic & Dim Sum on the menu.

Along with Blueberry Hill, the Loop has a lot of ethnic restaurants. Even a little fondue at Melting Pot or a root beer float at Fitz's.

Great Vietnamese at Pho Grand on South Grand. Not too terribly far from MINI of St Louis.

Yes, definitely check the Rivers. The Great River Rd up to Grafton, Ill is a beautiful drive but may be under water
