Quick Trip East of LA

We have to take a last minute trip to Beaumont/Banning area from the bay area.

Thinking of making it a two MINI motoring road trip.
Off the beaten path of course

Any road suggestions to take or avoid?
How about a road that is a MUST MOTOR

Carol -
That's an easy one - Highway 243 from Banning up to Idyllwild

A really good uphill twisty road - look here for a basic map http://www.pashnit.com/maps4/Highway2.htm

Pashit now requires a $20 per year subscription to see the full details of his California Motorcycle Roads. Well worth it IMHO

A great loop would be Banning - 243 - up to Mountain Center (not all the way to Idyllwild) , then 74 west. Don't go into Hemet, go towards the Soboba Indian reservation, then to Gilman Springs Road, north on 79, end up in Beaumont. About 2 hours of very good twisties

Craig, you are the best when it comes to great roads to travel around SoCal. Thanks for being there for the community

Thanks Craig!

Lived there as a child. I think I remember a dinner in the mountains where
they have great apple pie!

^I believe the pies are from the town of Julian? I've seen that whole area on a map recently, and I've been told that the roads around Idyllwild would be awesome for a MINI.
