Why Don't Convertible Owners Wave?

I Have noticed that convertible owners do not waive or flash back like fixed roof folks. Wonder why...Maybe the roof interferes with the waving hand... maybe the lights don't flash at all... must be a bug Mini needs to work-out

I ALWAYS wave...and I guess I've gotten lucky. All the other Cabrios owners have waved back....so there is hope.

Goaljnky always waves, he waved at me when he forgot his wife had taken the cabrio that day and he was in his Audi.

It's been my experience that the owners of newer MINIs don't wave as much, and since the cabrio is new, they fall into that catagory.

I ALWAYS wave when I see another Mini. I have a convertible. I wave so much and hardly ever get a wave back that I feel like a nerd. I still wave anyway. In fact, the other day, on the 15 freeway headed towards San Diego, I saw a green Mini S, and I zipped along until I could get right up next to them and I waved at them, and they waved back. I got repeat waves from them as we passed each other up. Then, I saw another Mini, a purple one (don't know if it was an S or not) and I pulled up to her and got another wave. To me, getting a wave back is so exciting.

LONG LIVE THE MINI WAVE!!!!!

If I had one I would wave.

poor visibility

could be a probable reason...

goaljnky Sep 28, 2005 07:40 PM

I wave, my wife waves, my dog waggs his tail (even though he doesn't have one). Of course the wave is a little different for the aššhole in the SUV, but all mini drivers and their cargo get a wave and a smile.

Waiver

My wife and I always wave. We live in a small resort town in colorado, were the only other minis our tourist. they never seem to wave  i mean your on vaca. you should be happy.

I get an occasional wave back from other MC's... hard-top or cabrio. Over the weekend, I was driving around Bucktown in Chicago and saw numerous MC's, but didn't get a single wave  . Yeah, I feel like a geek when I don't get a wave back... but if I got a dollar for every stare or grin I get when the top's down, I'd be rich

Eager to motor and CAN'T WAIT to wave!

I get my MINI in 11 days!! The last few days I've seen 2 or 3 MINIs around my work or home and it's just killing me that even though I'm in a BMW (M3), I can't wave just yet. I can't wait to wave to hard tops, cabrios, and anyone else who waves at me!

I'm a waver! Or I do the "Winston Churchill" (two fingers in a V - friendly style, not the "up yers" way...)

I think the original poster just got a bad sample...

Again this morning... two MCS's on the freeway... one cab and one coupe. Coupe waived, cab didn't so much as acknowledge...

Early adopters [2002 and 2003 owners] seem to wave more often. Late Adopters and gas guzzler converts tend to wave less.

I have also noticed with limited exceptions...(Donna/Mike most notabley) Tin Top owners don't care for the drop top. And likewise Drop top owners don't care much for the tin top.

Its much more common for a family to have one non-supercharged and one supercharged.

DSlates1983 Oct 3, 2005 12:44 PM

either way

I wave to both drop or tin top. yesterday my wife and I drove to denver, while on the 285 we saw 2 drop tops, and 2 tin tops. EVERYONE WAVED!!!! It was great!

A Wave would be Great

The MINI is becoming so common on the streets of Los Angeles and Southern California, the new buyers have no clue as to a wave or a knod. It's almost a waste of time to raise my arm. I've driven right up next to them and they look at me like what the "heck" am I doing.
It's a a shame that it's not like the first year or two, when the cars were such a novelty.
I still love mine and will probably keep it for years, but the initial fun and thrill of being part of this group, has faded rapidly.

Keep WAVING !!!!

Itsdchz Oct 3, 2005 01:20 PM

We waive, honk, swerve, flash, tailgate, run off road, until we get a response back ;)

The Short Bus Oct 3, 2005 01:44 PM

I wave or flash everyone... but there are times i get so caught up in my music, i dont look far enough out. Rare, but i've had a few people say they've waved, and i wasn't paying any attention.

There's a purple cabrio at the end of my friends culdesac that waves and honks at me EVERY time we see each other, if i dont beat her to it.

But her car screams enthusiasm... "TPLS GMA" is the plate. But really, all the cabrio owners have waved to me, except this one lady with a gold one... she never does, and i see her all over the place. She just sticks her nose up at me and moves along.

And i'm on the other end of the US

goaljnky Oct 3, 2005 02:38 PM

Here is a topic just begging for a headline: "TPLS GMA flashes other motorists":lol::lol::lol::lol:

The Wave

I am new hardtop owner, but I didn't think we needed another waving thread.

I have been waving my butt off since I got my new MINI last week and haven't gotten a single one back.

I am going to keep trying though!

Well, I'm a convertible owner and I wave. In fact, I waved at Penn Jillette today. He was in his "stripper pink" MINI near the Las Vegas airport.

Gomez85 Oct 4, 2005 09:37 AM

Most MINIs I've seen have waved....tho I will agree the drop top crowd hasn't waved to me yet. Maybe it IS a visability issue (their tops are always up....didn't they hear those commericials??). I have been caught without waving, it's tough on our local freeways. The cel phone fanatics that don't pay attention, keeps my eyes scanning forward so I will miss seeing a MINI until it passes (I never have problems in my wife's Expedition or on my Buell, but in BB....she must've come with an a**hole magnet attached to her!!). Drive safe and wave when ya see us!!

canyon mini Oct 4, 2005 12:21 PM

It's not there fault. :impatient They can't see or hear you, with the wind blowing in there ears & the hair in there eye!

indimini Oct 4, 2005 01:20 PM

It could be you are seeing the secondary driver of the vehicle (like my wife who occasionally drives the MINI to work). I'm sure she's so concerned that if anything happens to the car she'll never drive it again and is too busy wathching the car next to her to think about waving.

Honestly, we're a family of wavers. But it could be that as previous owners of an 02 MC we had the wave down earlier than many of the new-to-MINI convertible owners.

I'm more concerned when I see a MINI convertible withou the top down. Seems that if (a) you don't wave to other MINIs and (b) you keep your top up, you should have their car taken from them immediately and put into a Chrysler Sebring.

wave

I must put my 2 cents in on this one.

As a cabrio owner i wave whenever i see another cooper.

Coopers on the road are still somewhat rare in my area of the country.

Still i must say when cabrios see cabrios we tend to get a bit more animated.

just due to lack of the commonality of seeing them.

I pose this question:
Are tin tops more excited to see tin tops ?
do "s" drives feel more kin to fellow "s: drivers ?

OK discussss............

davavd Sep 24, 2006 05:40 PM

:thumbsup:I am with my2ndmini. I wave at all minis, but there are very few. I regularly see one, and him only on the other side of a wide interstate median.. I don't know if he waves or not. If I see you, you get a wave. i like that about this car. I figure if someone doesn't wave, they are probably someone who would never come to NAM, and bought the car to save gas. I bought it for fun.
