Let's do another run!

I had such a blast on Sunday...I'd love to get a group of just MINI owners together for a smaller group run. It would be cool to rap with other people about mods specific to MINIs, issues, etc., then take our cars out for some drivin'.

I'm not terribly familiar with many other good driving roads (although Latigo up in Malibu is an AMAZING drive!).

Would some of you cats be up for a Latigo Canyon drive soon? Might be cool for any of you who are on other MINI forums to cross-pollinate and let them know if we come up with a date. Personally I think it would be a lot of fun if it was mostly MINI owners for this one.

I could help organize a smaller run a couple of the mkv guys that i'm close with wants to run it again, I can help set it up

Let's do it. What about April 23 or 24?

I like the idea of the mostly MINI thing...not that some others wouldn't be welcome of course! But it would be cool to mingle with more MINI owners.

You guys will be really missing out on a great drive if you don't try SCMM's annual "Walking the Streets of Bakersfield V1" on Saturday 04/17. It's an amazing drive with a terrific group of people.

You have to register to view that link. Anyway, is Bakersfield still considered SoCal? I believe Randy was talking about this on Sunday and mentioned SCMMs run. I think the only draw back is the drive to Bakersfield. It's just a matter of getting the LA and surrounding area peeps to actually drive up there.

I wouldn't mind checking out Latigo Canyon or any other areas that provide a nice day of motoring. Definitely need to do Tuna again, now that I know what it's really like.

Headlands Apr 7, 2010 02:47 PM

Yeah, Bakersfield probably won't happen in the near future, if I 'm to be completely honest. :) I have a lot of big, long drives coming up in the beginning of May.

Latigo is fantastic; it's pretty intense, lots of hairpin turns in some sections, capped by amazing views. It's a nice long drive, too, with places to stop and chill in the trees, etc.

Tuna was great, indeed! We could do Tuna then join the PCH and go up to Latigo on the same day; that would be tons of kick-arse driving. Or just Latigo.

Maybe I'll make an official "announcement" for April 24th or 25th, if peeps are up for either of those days.

Onimun Apr 7, 2010 03:09 PM

Im there.

Latigo is fun, better on the way down though. We should drive up Corral and get a nice group shot at the top.

Or maybe Up Yerba Buena off from Where Mulholland connects with Decker.

Oh, and Ill make a better effort in tracking you guys down this time...

ClintB1321 Apr 7, 2010 03:36 PM

mind if i join? i dont OWN a mini, but i drive ABF's R56 jcw for time attack, is that good enough? :)

Of course! You'll have no problem keeping up in that thing, that's for sure. :)

Corral or Yerba Buena sounds good. We could do either as a loop: start further up the 1 then come back through Latigo to a lunch spot.

ClintB1321 Apr 7, 2010 04:06 PM

^thanks, i wont be able to bring out the ABF Mini since its way too loud for the street LOL, but i can bring out my focus or miata

not sure if you guys know or not, but yerba buena's surface is very rough and hard on tires, tends to over heat lesser performance tires quickly. Just putting it out there as a safety precaution :)

Headlands Apr 7, 2010 04:10 PM

Ok, we could do Corral instead of Yerba Buena, since I don't want our MINIs jumping all over the place - ha!

Open to suggestions!

ClintB1321 Apr 7, 2010 04:15 PM

^are most of your guys coming from the ventura side going toward santa monica? or vise versa? i live in LA so when i go up i go from samo side toward ventura side, taking the route los flores, to schuren, down stunt, up mullholand past the rock store to the look out point before kanan, and go where ever from there

FYI, the OP wanted to do a group run with a group of MINIs and mingle with MINI owners. I offered up a run for him and anyone else interested.

This isn't a drive to Bakersfield btw. A group will meet in Sylmar (which I believe is in So Cal) and caravan to Tehachapi (which are mountains) and then drive about 2 1/2 hours worth of canyons and twisties, ultimately ending in Bakersfield (which is not in So Cal).

There are 24 cars already signed up so I doubt getting a group from LA to do this run will be much of a problem.

Here is a shot of last year's run:

Hm! Thanks for this info. Unfortunately I'm busy on the 17th, but will definitely join another time.

That silver Mini looks familiar^^

JeffreyC Apr 10, 2010 09:41 PM

Hey Alpha!

That was me on the 605...couldn't hang in that line for the 10 so I continued to the 210.

Your R53 is sweeet!

CAPO Apr 12, 2010 11:27 PM

sooo, anything planned for the next few weeks?

BoostLE Apr 15, 2010 04:09 PM

That SCMM drive looks like a lot of fun! I just signed up and my account is pending approval.

I agree - I love Piuma, especially, all the way from Malibu Creek Canyon road.

Haven't done Decker or Stunt but would love to check 'em out.

I say next Sunday we do a Malibu run -- we can meet in Santa Monica or somewhere on the Westside or off of the PCH at 9:30, leave by 10 for a few great runs, then hit lunch. I can map a route for us that includes a few of these runs - Andrew if you want to help map it out that might be good since I'm not familiar with a lot of those runs and the best way to connect them.

ClintB1321 Apr 18, 2010 01:32 PM

decker is real tight and steep, hand on brakes on the down hill,

Surfink Apr 18, 2010 03:06 PM

You guys really should check out the MOAT(Mother of All Twisties) run by the SoCalMiniManiacs which is next month, I believe the 22nd of May. Membership is cheap and they have great activities..I did the run last year and have the route I do in sections when I have free time..

ClintB1321 Apr 19, 2010 12:53 AM

^ill be at big willow that weekend, cant make it

Onimun Apr 19, 2010 02:19 PM

You guys be careful on the Snake/ Mulholland. Lots of CHP patrolling. My best advise is to avoid that road on the weekends if you are looking for speed. I have yet to see any on Yerba Buena and generally only see one a Month on Stunt sitting right on the top. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Im down for a canyon drive. Ill try and make a better attempt in meeting up with you all.
