Moving to L.A. very soon, and I´m probably installing white taillights and an Alta Intake on my MCS, among other things.

Two questions:
1. How strict are the cops in Cali when it comes to white taillights with no red reflector kit?

2. Does the Alta intake come with a C.A.R.B. sticker? In other words is it legal in Cali and will it pose a problem at inspection/smog check?

Thanks in advance..

I dont think the alta intake is CARB certified so it is illegal in CA. Unless the cops pull you over and look under the hood then you dont really need to worry about it. Just put the stock airbox in for smog checks. I got caught with the moss intake, long story short I payed a $10 fix it ticket and had to get a smog check and pass.

The Cops aren't too strict about white tail lights, if they give you a hard time just say your mini came like that or that it didnt have the reflector kit.

How often must you smog-check your car in Cali?

Get ready to be pulled over for white tail lights in the LA area. The CHP are looking for them. This info came from the CHP that pulled me over and gave me a ticket for no red reflectors or front plate. Find some small unobtrusive red reflectors and mount them under the bumper. This will probably get you by. I've done the same and had a couple of chippies check me out by pulling up behind me about 10 feet from my rear bumper but I haven't been pulled over again. Good Luck

Thanks for the heads up..
I actually thought about doing this or maybe putting some reflective red tape on the licence plate frame.. I figure if I use roughly the same size of tape as the factory reflector kit I should get by.
Ya think?

By the way how much was your ticket?

If you go to the CHP station there is no charge for them to inspect the car. I was a little nervous because I have tinted windows and I wasn't sure if they would look or not. You can go to a sheriff's station also but it will cost you $10 or $15. I also thought about using the reflective tape but decided on the small reflectors instead.
