New MINI dealership in Austin, TX
Just found out that BMW of Austin will be adding an authorized MINI dealership and service center in about 14 months.
They have acquired the land next to their pre-owned lot and are to begin breaking ground any day now.
This is GREAT news for us Austinites having to burn up I-35 to get MINIs serviced.
UPDATE: As of 7/23/2008 BMW of Austin says MINI part should be opened by end of year 2008...tick tock...

Since you mentioned a Mini meet in Austin, you might be interested in this:
Austin Mini Cooper Meetup Group
I'm the organizer and the next meetup is tomorrow, but there will be another in a month, not to mention a number of people gathering at the Round Rock ABCD.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I thought it'd be better than starting a new one with the same topic.
Does anyone know if this is still true? I've heard rumors of them opening a MINI dealership/service station in Austin in 2008, but then again, my MA in 2003 said they were going to be opening one that year, too, so I'm leery.
Sure would be convenient.

I've been following many of the threads on this site, while I was waiting to get my new Mini but have never posted any myself. However I do have a bit of information to share with my fellow Mini owning Austinites. The BMW dealership is building a Mini Dealership and are to break ground in March. This information came from a salesman at the BMW dealership. There is also a Mini of Austin website, which just says coming soon (http://www.minicooperofaustin.com) but I'm thrilled that the dealership may be done before my 1 year maintenance.

Cool and thanks. Sales Rep. told me the same thing, but I was leary that he was blowing smoke as he really wanted to sell me the X5.
Thanks for the link too. No more trips to San Antonio once this is done....

Oh, that is awesome news. It's not that I didn't like driving down to San Antonio. But it's a PIA to find someone else to drive you down there for pick-up, if you ever have to have your car towed down to San Antonio.
I wonder if this is going to absolutely flood Austin with MINI's on the road, though.

Shot an e-mail off to BMW of Austin, and they confirmed it themselves. Mini dealership will be built by the end of the year. Whether that means up and running, who knows, but the knowledge that those trips to San Antonio are nearing an end is more than enough for me to run on for some time!

I hesitated purchasing a Mini because of the long drive to San Antonio. But I ordered and last month I picked up my new Clubman (Hot Chocolate/Black) thinking service would be once a year, provided no breakdowns. Looks like my first service will be at the new dealership. Question, will the new mechanics be properly & efficiently trained?

One can only hope...
I have toured the BMW shop at this location and it is TOP-NOTCH, you can eat off the floor. So you can bet that the MINI shop will be the same unless they share the same shop which may happen.
The customer waiting area is very nice too with Wi-Fi. It is much nicer than the San Antonio location (although the SA location is nice in its own right), but it is Penske owned and he does things .
