The 12 miles of terror Fun Run

On Feb. 27th the Desert Rat Pack (chapter of the Dynamic MiNi Collective) is hosting a FUN RUN featuring (SR-97) the 12 miles of terror. This stretch of road ranks #1 in Arizona among MiNi enthusiasts. We invite MiNi enthusiasts from all over to join us in this FUN RUN.

We will be meeting at the Gold Nugget Restaurant at 8:00 am for breakfast. And hopefully depart around 9:00 am for the fun run.
There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant.

Dom, seriously, I would not make a post on a national forum for 'members only'. We want any MiNi enthusiast that wants to have fun join us.

How would one get there from Vegas?
Of course, the weekend before AMVIV, I doubt I'll be able to attend.

The 12 Miles of terror is HWY 97

The South end intersects with Hwy 93 about half way from Wickenburg, AZ and Wickieup, AZ . A little south of Nothing, AZ

The North end intersects with HWY 96

To get there from Vegas, Nv.
Hwy 40 east
Hwy 93 west
Hwy 97 will be to the north east about half way from Wickenburg and Wickieup.

Its a road that almost goes to Bagdad, AZ.

Non Arizonians are going to think I'm making these town names up. LOL

Ok I ran the 12 miles last Sunday.

One Warning to keep in mind when we go. There were 3 washes with running water at the moment. The first was over an inch deep. The other two were barely water on the road. At speed you will hydro plane if not carefull. Two of the three were marked with "Ice on Road" signs; the middle one was not. Hopefully the washes will dry up by the 27th.

We will be meeting at the Gold Nugget Restaurant at 8:00 am for breakfast. And hopefully depart around 9:00 am for the fun run.
There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant.



I was able to leave my house at 8:30 and arrived in Wickenburg about 9:40. Talking the 303 it was about an hour from I-10

I was home after doing the whole route about 3:00pm

Anyone else ever taken the Vulture Mine Road out of Wickenburg to the south to I-10?

I just realized, that this is going to take place on back-to-back weekends with AMVIV 05. Anyone else notice this? I'm not sure I can do both... But, hey, since the 12 miles is on the way to Vegas, I'm definately going to run it a couple of times on my Friday trip to Vegas.

I wonder what the washes are like. It has rained A LOT more since Bill ran it last time and we are supposed to get more rain the rest of the week.

Well after a busy week and a long Saturday, I'm not sure if I'm going tomorrow...sorry to be a poop-butt. I'm going to see how I feel after a night's sleep. If I can climb outta bed at 7AM tomorrow, then Ill be there. But if my body sleeps in, then I guess I'll have to catch you on the next fun-run :smile:

I'm a University of Arizona graduate and a former employee of Pima Mining from the '70s.

Your run looks to be a barrel of fun indeed...If it wasn't a good 2800 miles from here to there I'd love to be with you.

Sorry guys.... I woke up this morning with something that feels like an inner ear infection. My eyes are having a hard time tracking...good thing I didn't push myself to go out on that fun-run to the twisties. I would have been an accident waiting to happen!
