hi everybody, adam here.

i was hoping to start getting some of the stuff for the trip up to NC together for anybody who wants to make a little caravan. i checked mapquest yesterday, and from my house (naples, fl) it's 13 hours and 748 miles or so.

so for all you guys who are going to deals gap and are interested in hooking up along the way, drop me an email ( admar_moondog@hotmail.com ) and we can maybe figure some stuff out, like where to meet, when to stop, etc. this is my first big road trip, and i dont wanna go it alone!

Hollister Mar 14, 2003 09:38 PM

hehe...I hope I get the time off for this... Muwahahahahah....

orbhot Mar 17, 2003 02:30 PM

I had mentioned something like this in the Deal's Gap thread and it sounds like a great idea. Imagine the site of several MINIs flying up I-75. We should arrange a meeting place near I-75 and head up together.

zerocharisma Mar 17, 2003 05:01 PM

precisely vince.

tony and i being the southernmost folks (unless there's somebody lower???) talked about meeting up in naples, and meeting you guys at I-75 exits at the appropriate time. this way nobody has to travel backwards. send me an email with your respective exit number for I-75, and if you all wanna come along for the ride, i can tell you what time you can expect us.

which brings me to my next qustion: what time do you guys wanna get there? it's pretty much an all day trip for me, so i was thinking about leaving around 7 or 8 and getting there in time for a late dinner, maybe with the gang?

let me know, it sounds like it'd be fun for a bunch of us to go together!

StarLog Mar 17, 2003 06:10 PM

Your coordinator should also, get CELL Phone numbers, so if someone is running afew minutes late, you guys do not leave them behind...

zerocharisma Mar 17, 2003 08:59 PM

quite. excellent point starlog!

i have nationwide long distance with sprint. once we get an email list going, (i realize that i'm WAY premature in all this planning, but this is gonna be the big thing for Morgan and I) i'll get cell phone numbers going around.

new topic: motorola talkabouts-anybody have them? one per car would be nice, and i dont know if they come individually...who out there has pairs?

(it's un-related..but who cares?) my MA called today! christine from downtown said that my car would be here sometime next week, so i'll get to pick her up next saturday, the 29th (crossing his fingers...!)

Hollister Mar 18, 2003 05:00 AM

Yay, Adam!! Morgan will be here soon!! Bow chicka bow-bow...hehe.

I have a set of motorola walkie talkie thingamabobs...they are indespensible on trips like this.

zerocharisma Mar 18, 2003 12:45 PM

>>bow chicka bow wow...hehe

what do you mean by that hollister???

minigleep Mar 18, 2003 07:35 PM

alas, i believe i shall not be able to make this trip. i expect you all to regail me with tails of your brave adventures upon your return! godspeed intrepid wanderers!!!

KatKrenn Mar 24, 2003 04:33 AM

Hey Guys! I just registered on your forum today, because I am planning the trip in May to Deals Gap. You are talking about "The Dragon" right? I live in Jacksonville. Can you pick me up somewhere along the way up North? Just let me know what time, and where.

Hollister Mar 24, 2003 06:37 AM

Welcome to MCO, Kat!! Yup...we are talking about the "Tail of the Dragon." I'm not sure how many others from Jax are heading up for it...keep your eyes out here for more posts.

Welcome again!!

Holly

KatKrenn Mar 24, 2003 07:30 AM

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm confused though. I'm seeing threads discussing a Friday Dragon Run and a Saturday Dragon Run. I wish I knew the real schedule. We're leaving Thursday morning. So I am looking for a Thursday Caravan. I guess I'll play it by ear as far as the schedule goes. Can't wait to meet you guys!

Hollister Mar 24, 2003 07:39 AM

Kat, I know there are threads in this forum discussing a saturday run, and a friday run...but those are for the Ferman Party on April 5th. I'm not sure if those of us wanting to caravan up to NC for "the Dragon" have really discuessed when will start our trek. Hope this helps...

Here's an enticing pix for you all.

I'll keep watching here for more info. Hey! I have great news, though. I just received clearance from work to borrow some walkie talkies for this trip. They have 10 or so here that they aren't using. I'll see how many I can get. Range is about 2 miles.

zerocharisma Mar 24, 2003 02:52 PM

that is too cool.

as many of you know, there may be a problem with me getting morgan (she's called my mother). but fear not my firends, i'll be going to deals gap anyway.

i just dont know how lame it will be for me to show up miniless...

Ggggrrrrrrr....
YOU WILL BE GOING!! It won't be lame of you to show up miniless... Because we all know that you will be with a MINI...at least in spirit. Just think...showing up in someone else's MINI would be a lot better than showing up in say...I dunno...a Cadillac deVille... now THAT is a hoopty. LOL...hehe...I'm badddd...

Word.

zerocharisma Apr 9, 2003 01:46 PM

hey guys!

deal's gap is about three weeks away, and preparations are in order for anybody who's interested in forming a big caravan for the trip up. i did a mapquest directions thing, and it takes about twelve hours to get there, using I-75 as the main route until we hit atlanta, i think, then breaking off from there.

so what i need from you guys: send me an email with your location, and what good spots there are along the way for us to meet you. i'm suspecting this is all going to start with the south florida folks, as they'll be the first on the road, meeting up with the rest of the crew along the way. suggestions are appreciated too.

i'll be a co-pilot on this trip...as i dont have a mini to go up in. Holly might not be going (crossing her fingers she'll make it), and if so, could anybody here give me a lift? i dont know how i'm gonna work this out, because i wont be coming back from deals gap..i get to go to new york to see mully!!!

2minis Apr 9, 2003 02:49 PM

I am probably leaving a day or two prior to the
meet. I just put two new tires on my Bimmer(R1100R)
and it is longing for a road trip. So don't worry...I'll be
Miniless as well.

JoeS475 Apr 9, 2003 08:28 PM

GRRRRRRRRR I really want to go, but it falls right between two semesters, possibly the only chance I'll have to see my family until July. But maybe... just maybe I'll be able to drive down from Jersey and meet you guys for a day on my way back to Daytona. Housing check in starts May 1, classes start May 5. Talk about bad timing!

~Joe

mully1217 Apr 9, 2003 09:14 PM

Joe-if you drive down on the 1st, myself and Indi are going to meet up...you could meet up with us on the way and have a NE caravan!! Just let me know.

Erin

JoeS475 Apr 9, 2003 11:50 PM

Thanks Erin, I'll keep that in mind

zerocharisma Apr 10, 2003 02:21 PM

okay folks, this is who i have so far in the caravan.

zerocharisma: naples, looking for a ride!!!
hollyrn76: orlando, needs to make it official that she's going!!!
kesh420: St. Petersburg
Katherine Krenn: Jacksonville

orbhot, holly told me you were going...are you gonna caravan?

to everybody else who wants to caravan: let me know where you are and what a good meeting place for us is, we'll get to you!

i bought an atlas at the mall yesterday, mapquest sends us around the long way, and i've worked out a path that ought to get us there faster. keep me posted on your plans, email and IM's work best.

Hollister Apr 10, 2003 09:10 PM

Okay, I'm gonna call AAA tomorrow and get them to make a trip-tik for the route. They have good info listed, such as construction zones, areas with a history of congestion, etc.

I'm 99.99999999999999% sure that I'll be making the trip. I hope that I can caravan with some of the people back to Florida, since Adam will be making his way up to NY with the Mullet. bow chicka bow-bow...
