Motorwerks in great, but expensive. Need a good shop suggestion

Hi,

First time poster. I would like to gather opinions on a good local mini specialist shop. Motorwerks is friendly and generally a good experience, but $120/hr for labour is simply too much. Was looking to find an honest local shop in Minneapolis, in the nearby, that I could take my 2007 Mini S to. It seems to have a sensor issue when starting in the cold that I need to have looked at. Starts, but then instantly dies, with only a very timely revving of the engine keeping it alive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

I would recommend Orr Autosport here is a link http://www.orrautosport.com/

I have not been there, but as another option I'd check out http://www.eurosportwayzata.com/

Imola is also good, not sure if they work on Minis but I don't see why not. I took my E90 there to have my reflectors changed (from amber to clear), and they didn't even charge me for the work. All they wanted was for me to put the Imola sticker on my window to advertise for them.

I called them and the worst thing was he said he wouldn't touch my mini. Further performance has decided to help me in modding my new mini. They are great and easy to work with. Here is the website look into it

Hi, I called IMOLA because on their facebook page they posted a pic of a Mini getting worked and they said 'We do Minis too!!' in that post. When I talked to the guy he seemed nice enough and gave me good info. He did not say that they do not touch minis. Cheers.

What year is your mini. Mine is an 08 and I talked to IMOLA about helping with an ECU tune and he said they did not do those. He was very nice about it and just said the market it too small in Minnesota for them to really get into the turbo minis. He mentioned DP performance in Rogers for a remote dump tune. I went with Evolved for my ECU and they were very quick and great to work with. I also called ORR autosport and they only do pulleys and the supercharged minis.
I'm from maple grove. Where are you from?

Hey, I just picked up a certified 2011 ALL4 CMS and am very excited to start modding it. Nothing heavy like an ECU tune though, mostly small stuff. Yeah I guess that I didn't ask specifically about something like tuning at IMOLA. Just if they worked on them....which is pretty broad in hindsight. And I was just looking into ORR for small stuff since I work very close to them. Otherwise I have the warranty for awhile :) FYI I live in Golden Valley. Are there any other active people around town? I also see that you have the magnaflow exhaust. I am looking into doing that as well but I am going to just get the muffler and then have a shop do the piping etc. How do you like it? I've seen videos and I like that its not too loud and noisy etc. The kit is not worth $800+tax IMO. Cheers!

Did mine at Tim Custom Exhaust in Coon Rapids. Absolutely think about going here. He has all the piping and is a magnaflow representative. Cost me 650 for a custom 2.5 in cat back system. I only have a resonator on it to 3 inch tips. Love the sound. Kits are nice but after shipping and then install can be quite a lot. As far as others on here your the first since I have joined that is from Minnesota. I did all engine things to my car. That's was phase 1. Next will be body and trim. I had to get my cooper ready for SOWO. It's a German car show in Helen, GA. We go there for the show and then it's only 30 minutes from the dragon! Amazing road for cruising in a mini with its corner hugging features. It's all over you tube if you want to see.

I was looking at Tim's. Did you just buy the whole deal from him? So you don't have a muffler installed? Just the resonator? Huh...so why did you go with that set up as opposed to straight pipe to a muffler like the kit? Cheers.

Skitts Mini 04-23-2013 12:14 PM

So my set up goes from the downpipe to a flex pipe. From the flex pipe there is a resonator. I like the sound coming straight off the resonator. So he just added a straight pipe and put tips on it. Tim is unique in the way he does things because he has over 14 different mufflers to choose from. He originally went from the resonator to a magnaflow muffler and I didn't like how quiet it was. He took the muffler off and put on about 5 different types but I was still unhappy with the sound. When I was demoing one of the mufflers the unit fell off and it was coming straight from the resonator. I fell in love. So that's my story with Tim.

MinneMINI 04-23-2013 12:20 PM

Lol, awesome story. Here is the sound I am going for and is from 1bigpea, who is very active from what I can tell at least, on NAM.
I wonder what Tim would charge for what I want...I would more or less emulate the magnaflow kit.

Skitts Mini 04-23-2013 12:35 PM

That's how mine sounds. Only a little quieter. Tim can defiantly make that happen. As far as cost goes. You have a bit more piping than I do. But I bet cost would be around 800-900. Maybe less

By quieter I meant mine is loud and the video was quieter
