SMF fastest run

Managed second place in SMF Saturday, 11th overall (out of 74). With some upgraded brakes and a better nut behind the wheel we could have done even better. Next race April 15.

Use DiSimo and Marcus (both in STR) as your benchmarks as to whether or not your driving is improving.

SMF fastest run

Yep, need to shave 2 seconds to get to their level. I think the car can go a lot faster with a better driver.

A few other points...

1. Do you have an LSD?

2. How old are the Hankooks? Are they stone? The Korean tires are nowhere as fresh as the Purple Crack.

3. Have you had DiSimo drive your car and ride along as an instructor run to see how you're doing? The video makes it tough to tell how smooth you are at power delivery or braking.

No LSD. Shopping for a Quaife, but didn't get much wheelspin with the Hankooks so I put it off...

Hankooks are (were) on their first run.

No instructor yet. I know I need to think my way around the track better - right now I get the red mist and the brain disconnects.

Have to try to stay detached and work on precision. I have a clue where to apex on my course walk, but on the track it's a different story.

More seat time I guess.

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk that course as many times as you can in the morning. Also, autocross ideal lines and road course ideal lines (although I know you meant once you are competing, not track day stuff... I meant this as if to say "don't worry too much about lines") are two different animals. Maybe walk where you'd be sitting in the car. So on some cones, you'll be walking ~1' or less away from it to simulate the cone being on the left side of the car. Other cones will be ~5' away from you to simulate that cone being on the right side of the car. Also remember that walking is done 10x - 20x slower than you drive! Processing the course on a walk is easier than processing it on the run.

Lastly... More seat time indeed.
