Netscape - What's Up
Mark,
I have been using Netscape 4, 7, 7.0, 7.1, 7.4 and so on and on and on. AT NO time have I not been able to edit any of my posts. All this happened after your last site update. Right NOW, using Netscape 7.1, if I try to edit even one word on your board that is misspelled my Netscape gives me a default, blacks out and wants to send a notice to the “whomever”. Which I also refuse to do. Either it works or it doesn’t. I reload Netscape, bring NAM back up and it still won’t edit a post, but has the first line or two I posted. I can't edit the word I want too and I can't recover the entire post I made before the edit. All I'm left with is one sentance and my **** in my hand. What’s up with the discrimination with Netscape? I refuse to use IE and if your website is roped into the Bill Gates syndrome, I’ll I can say is sorry, but you need to learn many of us out here don’t do windows. "Expand beyond Bill" You heard it first here people!!! The catch fraise of the 00's!!! |
I'm on a mac and can edit my posts in netscape no problem.

I've been trying to replicate the problem you are seeing and have not yet been able to do so. I've tested the site with a similarly configured user account as follows:
Windows XP Pro -------------- IE 6 Firefox 1.0.1 Netscape 7.1 & 7.2 Mac OSX --------- Safari Firefox 1.0.3 Netscape 7.1 & 7.2 Mozilla 7.1 Here is the test I'm trying to do...tell me if it's different from your steps in creating the problem: 1) find one of your posts 2) Click on Edit 3) Make the edit 4) Click Save alternatively 1) find one your posts 2) Click on Edit 3) Click on Go Advanced 3) Make the edit 4) Click Save From what I've read it sounds like the problem you see is that when you click on Edit your browser abruptly quits. If this is the case this is often due to something on your machine...likely something in the registry being corrupted. In reviewing the vBulletin site I've seen several comments about Netscape crashing when using the WYSIWYG editor for post creation, reply, and edit but no one seems to know why. One thing that could be tried is to change from this edit to the standard editor and see if it resolves the problem for you. In all my tests above I was using the WYSIWYG editor. If you want to change your editor type just go to User CP->Edit Options and you will find the Misc Options block where you can change the editor type. The only other option I can suggest right now short of trying to look for corruptions in your registry, or other machine related potential sources is to try using a browser like Firefox (www.getfirefox.com). Its based on the original Netscape source code and has a lot of the same (and better) features found in Netscape. This is what I use on a day to day basis on my Mac and have found it to be pretty stable (and much better than IE). Hopefully something above will help resolve or mitigate the problem you are seeing.
