Annoying pop-ups

About two weeks ago, started experiencing frequent and annoying pop-ops while viewing threads here on NAM. Anyone else notice this too? It’s very disruptive and you can’t back out of them to return to the forum.

Is there any way to prevent this?

I rarely use my phone to view NAM. Have you tried a different browser to see if that will prevent it? Android with Firefox, no pop ups so far.

Looks like others are having the issue too. Here is an example:

Since this morning I’m getting these on almost every NAM page I open on my iPad. Not sure about on the computer yet.

I found if I hit the back arrow in the background before I click close on the pop up it closes “normally”. If I only clicked close it would lock me into some page with no way to go back to the actual thread page. I read a suggestion to request the desktop site on a tablet, but that option didn’t work for me as I’m still getting the pop up.

It’s hitting me too on my iPad. Can’t refresh out of it. Makes the site virtually unusable. Please fix this!

Is this only an Apple issue? Any MS systems or the Samsung?

Samsung here. The pop-up keeps telling me I have viruses and have to download an app from them.

Over the weekend I was using my iPhone X to check the site. I kept getting the fake Amazon pop-up. No problem on my MacBook.

I’m having the same problem. Clearly a phishing attempt. Hopefully somebody can figure it out and clean it up. The site is unusable for me until this can be corrected.

It isn't a forum issue.

Unfortunately you clicked on the wrong site and ended up with a browser hijacker on your device. Go into the settings menu for whatever browser you use, clear all the stored site data, cookies, and the cache and it should take care of it.

I’m using an iPhone with Safari, and NAM is the only site where this is happening.

Will try your suggestion and report back in a day or two.

Well that didn’t take long. Cleared all history and cache, returned to NAM and began getting pop-ups within 10 minutes. It looks more like a re-direct which has the appearance of being a pop-up.

It happens while simply viewing a page, not while clicking on anything.

Example below.

Found related tips from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

Started by removing the last few apps installed on the iPhone.

OK, IB is aware and said this is happening across all the forums they have (over 130). Will keep you advised.

Thanks for looking into this.

Just FYI - I am using an iPad mini and I get this pop up in both Safari and Chrome. In Chrome, it locks up the whole app. I have had to delete and reinstalled the app twice because of it. Safari, at least, allows that window to be closed and the app is not locked up.

I’ve been having the same issue on my IPad , both with Chrome and Safari. Only on this site and tried all the suggestions mentioned above.

Wonder if this is related? Disclosure at the bottom of the NAM website:

Still getting them, ironically just as I was reading your update to this thread.

Anyone else still experiencing this? Anyone NOT experiencing this from an iPhone? I’m considering trying a factory reset on my phone, in case the cause is malware on the phone.

Pop-ups still occurring? I drive a Gen1 car so my phone is a string and a dixie cup, don't need to worry about pop-ups just sitting on the dixie cup.

I have the problem when accessing the site from my Samsung Galaxy 4. No problem accessing from the PC and no problem accessing any other website on the phone. I get the message that I have a virus and need a fix from Samsung. I get a count-down timer. I have never let the screen stay on long enough to read the message. Each time I restart the phone and delete all internet data and don't get the error message until I try to log in to the NAM site again.

Looks like something being triggered from the NAM site.
