Electrical R60 MiniCD into Mini BoostCD + Bluetooth + USB upgrade
#26
Many thanks this is a great help.
I'm thinking perhaps the reference to pin 1 is a typo and it should be 12? (As in the diagram) On my Radio has the 'Aux in' jack socket is wired to pin 1 (plus 2,7 and 8), which would make sense of the diagram as well (tape in).
I think I'll need to get the BMW mic and try that. I'm a sound engineer and had a nice directional mic I wanted to use instead, but I'm beginning to think the bluetooth mic inputs are line level (or at least higher level than my mic).
I've now traced the 2 and mode switch signals 'working' to the ribbon, both are next to each other so that maybe a clue! Further investigation needed!
My new radio has 3 Fakra connectors. The black one is obviously the FM radio, not sure what the other two are?? I've tried an aerial in both of them, but neither got the DAB working! Just says no signal! Same here on the CD changer - I use my phone now so no loss - just need to get the USB working rather than using the Aux in! Cable/Lead on it's way!!
The amount of time this is taking me, had I know I'd have bought a later model!!! :-))

The three Fakra connectors are:
Black - AM/FM AE
White - USB
Other - DAB AE
Can't remember the colours though
You might be right about the typo but I'm not sure why I would have said 1 & 6 way back when I did it however I didn't need to move my Aux In pins.
I am mechanical by trade so I'm sure you have the nouse to sort you pins outs more than I have.
Ask me a question about FADEC Gas Turbine Controls or Hydraulic Rotor Controls and I might have an answer. I've had a lot of the mechanical bits on the Mini apart as well so I can field questions on that as well.

This is the sort of DAB AE you will need - Plenty to choose from but read reviews, some are better than others.

Interesting conclusion to all this. Finally my 'BMW' bluetooth mic arrived from China. Plugged it in, works first time!
The interesting part is, that indeed it is wired pin 6 and 1 (not 6 and 12) ........... Not only that,.... it's the other connector!! I.e. not the one shown in the above diagrams!!!
Also, I did try my dynamic mic on the correct pins, but I was correct in one thing, the mic is amplified in the mic head before it reaches the connector on the back of the radio - I could just hear the dynamic mic, but it was far too quiet.
Final conclusion,.............. there is not a single correct wiring diagram for a Mini Boost Radio/CD on the internet!

Mic Wiring
Retrofitting and LCI bluetooth radio into a car that alteady har BT may need some extra steps.
Have a look here. Go back to the index page to select the right car.

Thanks. The LCI retrofit process should be the same in my case I believe. The OEM mic ran it via bluetooth, you are correct, and LCI radio has it integrated and mic pinned. The pigtail from LCI is almost the same, just with addition for CD changer and NAVI pin modules added. C pin bracket (missing form my boost set up) has 3 wires for mic silver, black green and yellow. I will try to add that bracket and resin the mic directly since mic already has wires running down. lets see what happens

Did you get your DAB radio working?
Had a chance to play with my set up today.
The MFSW is working including voice command.
I do appear to have lost some FM reception but I am having a look to see if I have connected the Aerial correctly. I didn't use the radio much before so the fault could have been there already. I will check the reception at various frequencies to see if the issue is limited to various bands howevr AM and MW seem fine.
The AUX connector charges but is not able to read music data off of my Moto G.
I will try my Wifes IPhone 5 at some point to see what happens with that however I already have a Kinivio BTC450 fitted permenantly to the AUX so I am able to stream music from my phone as well, something the LCI Radio does not do.
I am also now looking into fitting a DAB Aerial to get DAB up and running. The RealOEM Retrofit DAB Aerial looks pretty much like the item you can buy in Halfords for £20 UK Sterling.
I fitted a Mic from a BMW 5 SERIES F07 F10 F11 & F18 HANDS FREE MICROPHONE 84109181411. The Mic seems to work well and requires no screening of the Mic to Radio cable.
I also didn't buy a new facia rather I just reworked the original 2006 facia to fit. This does leave some gaps at the top but they are not too obvious as the CD facia is black.
I bought a cheep LCI Union Jack centre console decal from Ebay to act as a guide but kept well inside the guide on the first cut and worked the final removals to fit.
All in all I am well pleased.
I paid:
£65 UK Sterling for the Radio,
£11 for the USB Lead AUX/USB Block
£8 for and E38 Mic Cable
£4 for the connector block for the Mic to go into the Quadlock
£4 for the centre console decal
=£92 + variuous P&P
It took me about 4 hours to fit it all but I amwell practised in taking the dash apart.
I will be looking for a new facia and USB/AUX Block but only at the right price.
So far this has been as cheap or cheaper than any decent aftermarket option and it is all OEM apart from the Kinivo but that is almost invisible other than the 1 inch diameter switch unit.

Ordered the USB cable today. Thanks for the info....currently doing a similar mod....
2010 JCW......Silver radio and speedo with dying display....to all black gauges (black tachometer gauge face also)....black boost radio (cant stand the older volume control in center panel)
The panel cutout for the original CD is different then the latter boost one. (using the sticker is brilliant)....anyway I purchased a used latter version panel. Bonus....panel came with black climate and window controls.
UPDATE.......Got the China cables. Got them to work.....but not out of the box.
The China cable comes with the white plug. Problem is it is not the correct plug for my 2010.
On my 2010....the radio plug is all solid. It does not have the removable smaller plugs (like the picture in post 23).
Anyway.....found that lower pins for the AUX are #30 AUX in low, #35 AUX in low and #36 AUX in ground. (hard to explain....these pins are in the 'other plug' vs the one that comes with the cable. The China cable has those wires going to #18, #23 and #24. Same positions.....just the wrong plug. In my case I had to release and transfer them to my solid plug anyway.)
Found what so far is....a correct schematic and pin list.
