Unfortunately no, you would need to change head units in order to do that. This display is for people wanting to retrofit the navigation into their Minis or upgrade from the 6.5" display.

Question

Interested in the HUD - is there a way to retrofit that into a 15 MCS that does not have one?

Thanks!

It can be retrofitted as I’ve seen it on YouTube but don’t really know how complicated it is, bought it cause I had found it as a great deal for $300 but I went with my navigation retrofit instead and haven’t had much time to figure it out.

Yes, I've looked into this in the past and it's reasonably straightforward, if you're handy with MINI/BMW electrical systems already. I would not choose it as my first project, though.

Mechanically, you'll need to buy a plastic trim panel that goes on top of the dash (the HUD system, of course, being below), cut a hole, and bolt the HUD into place. This will require removing the dash panel so you can get underneath for the install.

That's the easy part — you'll also need to either find or fabricate a connector and wiring harness to tap into the existing vehicle wiring somewhere. There is one wire that connects directly to the instrument cluster on the steering column using a 6-pin connector. It's a bit odd. 4 conductors head off to a 4-pin connector on the cluster, one of them heads to one of the other connectors (and you'll need to add the receiver and wire it in), and the last heads off to a connector at the fuse box. (And there's a 7th on the wiring diagram … which appears to go to ground, but I'm not sure from which connector.) So, yeah, you'll have some work to do getting the wiring set up.

Start here, and read everything:

Here's the wiring diagram – blue figures are clickable links to more info about the connectors referenced:

how difficult is it to retrofit the larger screen? I have the 6.5" one and was thinking of upgrading to this and retrofitting the nav.

At this point I’ll direct you to the forums for discussing this. We’ve hijacked a marketplace post. Sorry, JP!
