Nothing personal. I love MINIs. I hate markups. I think markups are for people with more money than brains, but that's just my opinion so you don't have to agree with me. Unfortunately, we live in a society that condones markups, which only serves to make it harder for everyday working people to own something nice like this car. This MINI comes at a premium price already. For $57k you can get a low-miles Audi TT RS that will do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and is nicely trimmed with leather throughout or a loaded Porsche Boxter. I love the Goodwood and nearly considered buying one this year but it's just too high-priced at MSRP.
Most people I know have always paid below MSRP for a car. I'll pay MSRP but I won't throw away anything more than that. I once had $35k cash to buy a Honda S2000. I went to about 7 dealers. One wouldn't let me sit in the car. Another had a blind auction for the car. Most told me they were asking $10k over MSRP. One dealer wanted $15k over MSRP. I told them if I'm going to pay $50k for a car it isn't going to have a Honda logo on the front of it. Then I went and bought a BMW M Roadster for less than MSRP and never looked back. It was a great choice. I'll never buy another a Honda again (I used to own an ACcord and after that a CRX) either because of the experience so I hope they're happy with every last penny they squeezed out of some doctor or lawyer dumb enough to pay $50k for a $32k Honda. They lost a customer in me for life because of it.

Hmmmmmm $57 huh? Im feelin Audi TT, used BMW M3 cabrio, or several other fine choices. Dont get me wrong, I do love driving my Cooper but $57K for a sows ear is still a sows ear no matter how much leather and bling they drape over it. Its still saddled w/ this crappy Prince engine (which just cost me several hours research time and $50 for a valve cover gasket set that I will replace myself) plus the joy of hearing that your timing chain dropped out at (fill in the mileage, Ive heard as low as 12K and mine was done at 37K), turbo, HPFP, water pump, the crap thermostat "module" thats $572 for the dealer to replace (WTF !!!???!?) and it goes on n on. Just my $0.02 worth. Im pretty sure someone will buy it and I hope they enjoy every minute of it. They are great handling cars, just not the quality build I expected going in, especially for BMW. And how about an engine temp gauge, for cryin out loud?

That being said, this is a very nice edition. Would i pay that? Absolutely not, but someone might and i'm sure it will be for the fact that it's a collectible and not for it simply being a MINI with some extra fancy parts.

It is being marketed at 1 of 1000. I think the audience they're looking for is the collector and not so much the enthusiast like most of us are, let alone your average car buyer.

Let me tell you the Goodwood goes just like a Cooper S it is bloody great fun to drive and ours has been out and about on club runs mixing it up with all the other Mini's in the club. But to be inside this car is something else The smell the feel and quality of the leather and the general feeling of the car is very different. It is a little more refined and quiet I put that down to all the extra leather and carpet. I can feel the difference between my JCW and the Goodwood.

Enthusiast... So because I buy a Goodwood I am something else other than an Enthusiast... I have owned 10 classic Mini's and Mini Mokes I have had 4 new Mini's. Currently I have a JCW Clubman and the Goodwood. But it would seem I am not an Enthusiast....

Why not..mark-ups are disgusting....they even rank higher than "processing fees"................and if you can afford to buy this car you quite simply must have more money than sense.............there are way better alternatives out there as has already been mentioned.....

This car is like jewelry to me. Gorgeous to look and I would be satisfied to just appreciate the craftsmanship from afar but have no desire to own . For the money it commands I see myself getting a well cared for R53 GP now and a R56 GP in two years.

Ian, congrats on a Goodwood edition! Like i previously posted, it's a very nice edition, but you're misinterpreting what i said. I said the audience the dealer is likely targeting is the collector and not so much the enthusiast. I never said buying one would make you less of one. The high price tag definitely makes it more exclusive to own and as many of us in here has stated, me included, that we wouldn't pay that.
Note the Goodwood is $82,000.00 in Australia... So you guys get a bloody bargain over there.

Anyone else think it's funny this automatic is sitting in an area that says "Your first step to becoming a manual"?

WOW!! $57,00 for a MINI? I love my MINI but if I'm spending that kind of money on a car you can be sure that car won't be a MINI. For that money I can be driving a new Porsche Cayman.

I am an IT contractor and I earn a bit more than minimum wage.
#20
Exactly my point. Highest minimum wage in the US is $9.04/hr. so proportionally...
#21
The approximate conversion from AUS to USA dollar forth the $82,000 is $84,200.
Most of you are missing the entire point of this car. Just because it has the MINI badge and is a small car somehow makes it not worth to me top of the line luxury.
The whole "but you could get" argument is BS, the same goes for every one of our overpriced little cars. Because "you could get" much more of a car than what you get for the price of a mini. But you get that car because you want it over other particular types.
Why would someone buy a Rolls Royce if for the same price they could buy a house? Think of it that way.

This is a nice car, but like w00tMINI said I wouldn't drive it because it's so nice, I don't think I'd let anyone sit in it either lol. They should have only made 500 or 250 of them because I don't think they will sell, especially with those markups.

My wife is very fussy about letting people sit in it. No dark clothing no shoes that were used outside the car. These get bagged and driving shoes are in the car. I love driving without shoes the carpet is sooooo nice on your feet.
