Mini Under the Arches (MUTA) - Mock Run!!!!!

Ok everyone!!!! Here we go, MiniUtah.com club is making a mock run to Moab UT. We will be making the trip down this year at the very end of October, specifically Oct 27th-29th. The entire goal of this is to create very planned out runs and search out the best facilities to accomadate our Mini group for 2007.

Again, this is a mock run only, but we still would like to see a bunch of people down there. The first annual Mini Under the Arches will be held in 2007. We'd like to at least see people from Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico join us. This way we can get feed back from everyone. If you can make it happen, bring Mountain bikes or a really good pair of hiking shoes to have some good'ol Moab fun on the side. Feel free to bring tents if you feel like camping as well. Again, we are open for feedback before the Mock even takes place, so let us know your ideas here.

Thanks

Matt Linford

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!!!

OCT 27-29

Ramada Moab
182 South Main Street
Moab, UT 84532 US

435-259-7141

The Ramada will be our center of operations for the weekend. So, if you don't have a hotel reserved yet, we've got a group rate for MUTA. Give'em a call and let them know you're with MUTA and you'll get the dscount.

Matt, I think that is a great idea!

I have put this on my calendar and Rick Gonzales, Prez of MINI5280 has the info. Let's see if we can put together a 'scout' group from Colorado to organize this end.

BTW, our dates for "MITM2 - MINIs Come Back to Copper" is confirmed for August 9-12, 2007 at Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado.

Thanks for organizing!

Hi Matt,
I've posted this on the Sin City MINI Club board as well. Do you have any suggestions for a motel? I would imagine Moab is not too busy that time of year, but the weather should be nice.

Fat Tire Festival?

I hope everyone is expecting a TON of mountain bikers there for the Fat Tire Festival. I really want to go, but Blanding may be the only place to find a room?

Well, as for Motels, there are a lot to choose from considering the size of the city. I've stayed at a lot of them (and some campgrounds as well) and I'm currently trying to get a group rate from one of them. As for the Fat Tire Festival, I'm not sure how much room that will actually take up. I'll try to get some advice from a couple of local buddies and see what they think. This is a perfect reason to hold the mock run. Please note that if we need to change the date to another weekend to avoid the Fat Tire Festival, we will.

Jon, I made sure to schedule it around end of October for two reasons. First, so not as to schedule too closely to the MITM (which was a blast by the way, and will be there next year), and secondly, the weather. I don't want people scaulding hot, and my favorite time of the year in Moab is late Fall. We'll obviously have chilly nights, but we'll hopefully have a fire going at one of the local campsites. I know of a KOA type place that would also be a lot of fun to have, but there is a hotel right next door for those who want a bed instead of an air matress.

Thanks Steve and Jon for letting your clubs know. Our Utah group is getting excited and it should be a lot of fun.

Matt, MINI5280 would love to join the party

and we will promote on this end. A few notes - Halloween is a notorious party time in Moab (at least for our CO folks who go there for that reason) and there may be plenty of extra-curricular activities going on. That means that hotel / motel space may in fact be at a premium. If you are going to pick a home base, please let us know and we will all RSVP early to ensure lodging.

Second, we have been looking for a time to hold a trip of our own to the Gateway Auto Museum www.gtwymuseum.com and www.jackrouse.com and www.gtwycanyons.com . We were thinking about combining this trip on the way out. Perhaps for your event this is a good destination drive. Gateway, CO is due east of Moab as the crow flies but not that easy to get to. It is 100 miles of good curvy road and takes over 2 hrs to get there, but it is fun for MINIs.

Keep us posted. I will link to your posts in the MINI5280 forums, we will put info in our club site, and on our calendar as the event firms so that we can drive some business your way.

Thanks,

Jonathan

According to this website :http://www.moabbikefest.com/, the Halloween/Fat Tire festival has been cancelled. This should free up the motel rooms. Looking at Yahoo travel, it appears there are rooms available in the $80 to $100 range per night. Matt, let us know if you have a motel where most people will be staying.

Matt, if you have a flyer

or can do up a simple one, please do and send it to me at

jsouz@allstate.com

Since we have the big Colorado British Motoring Conclave next week in Denver (about 500 British Cars, Trucks and Bikes) I am happy to distribute it for you in the MINI community here. For that matter, we have our monthly meeting on Tuesday this week so if I have it by then, I can get to our members as well. *.pdf or Word format works fine....

Thanks,

Jonathan

Obviously, most of those posts

were a mistake. Who knows how or why that happened. Sorry, I don't know what to do about it...

I just wanted to confirm with everyone that Oct 27-29 will remain the date of the Mock MUTA weekend. This is mainly because the Fat Tire Festival has been cancelled and leaves the weekend wide open for us Mini's to search out all the road available.

As for a good Hotel, we've found a tentative place called the Riverside Hotel. However, we feel we can find another hotel that can accomadate us a bit better, so stay tuned for any changes.

Hi all,
Moab is one of my favorite places! I heard about this run at the Colorado British Car Conclave. I've got to check with spouse and child but there is a very good chance I'll be very committed to making this trial event. Will we be exploring local runs? I'm wondering if there will really be time for mt. biking?

Yes, we'll be seeking out local runs, but there will of course be time for some Mt. Biking. No sense on driving all that way to the Moab and not Mt. Bike. We will at least do a hike or two for those that don't have bikes.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!!!

OCT 27-29

Ramada Moab
182 South Main Street
Moab, UT 84532 US

435-259-7141

I wasn't getting a response out of the local hotel Riverside, so I changed it over to who gave us the better group rate first.

Call the number above and let them know you're with MUTA and they'll get you a double queen room at $69.00 a night. You must call by next Wed to get the rate.

Thanks guys,

email me if you have any questions.

Yes it's still the weekend of the 27th-29th. I edited my above post to add this.

If you don't have a bike rack and can't fit your bike inside the Mini, we could either do a quick little hike or I can call around and ask about bike rentals.

Yeah, looks like miniutah is down again. Though it has been a long time since it's happened.

As for rooms, they're going for $69 a night. That should be their bigger rooms as well.

Hmmmm . . . I think my wife is going to be busy that weekend, but my son probably will want to go . . . especially if we plan to bike. In that case we'll probably bring the Hobbitat and camp. On reflection that seems like it might be a good idea as I'll bet there will be some folks in 07 who would plan to camp. Any ideas on campgrounds? I know there is lots of camping in the Moab area but with the MINI we'd be looking for camp grounds on paved roads.

muta accomodations

called ramada in moab today for reservations, the lady told me she didn't have a "contract" with anybody and couldn't give the $69.00 rate. i went ahead and settled for a $72.00 rate. mattman might need to get back with them to figure out what needs to be done to get everybody the right rates.
Bluebonnet: there should be plenty of camping off paved roads in the area, check out along the river road (runs northeast just out of the north side moab). there are also plenty of campgrounds in moab itself, though falling asleep to the sound of running water

Hmmm, there was a contract made up, so I'll just have to double check with them right away for you guys. Too bad about the problem.

Contract was confirmed, so if you've already booked at the higher price, I would call them back up and let them know you're with MUTA. If you guys run into any more problems, let me know.
