Arm Restraints

Randy, and whomever else, .... IF you had actually taken the time to really read my post on this then you might actually understand what I was concerned about.

ONE, I never mentioned anything about arm restraints. These are not required in sedan racing

TWO, if you will re-read that thread I think I make my point rather clear about what's wrong with Brian's belts, and I even included a PDF file from Schroth which fully backs up what I was saying. Post 167, 173 , 174 .

THREE, there is no way that SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA would pass tech on a racecar, to go out and race in a SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA race without a window net. I heard there was quite a bit of complaining when in fact NASA were not happy with the Wicks racers cars in that race where NASA was involved. All it takes here is reading the rules. NASA, SCCA, BWMCCA

And that's it. This was about my only beef with the Wicks program. I was under the impression that it was a 'teaching' type of program, so when I see that only one or two of the cars racing are even race legal, it bugs me.
And just one more thing if I may. I see that even after all of this that window nets are still not being used... Oh well...
Just my two cents....Randy, arm restraints are for open cockpit and formula type cars. They are not allowed in sedan cars in SCCA, BMWCCA or any other sanction that I know of.
'Just get a net and you will be legal with everyone.
Steve

He had a net before, but for some reason decided not to use it in this last race.

Yes I have done everything to my car except the paint and body work. I even did the alignment.

Peter at M7 has been a great help. From doing anything and everything he could from parts, to stickers and even calling me up just to kick my but into gear and give me a congrats after a race. He has been really encouraging and I have to give him a big thanks.

Oh and Phil it's Way Motor Works, but you had it close enough. Hope to see you at the next race.

Phil Wicks NAMCC may not be the only MINI series here in the states...

But it is the only one with MINIUSA blessing and MINI international blessing.

That is why I am interested in it.

And it doesn't hurt that I belong to the same club as Waylen!

Actually, that is not the case, at least with respect to MINIUSA's involvement.

Jeff Stracco from MINIUSA on MotoringFile:

MF: Dave also wanted to know if is it MINIUSA’s intent to evolve the North American MINI COOPER Challenge into something more akin to the European series where drivers pay to show up and drive cars prepared by MINI and delivered by MINI to each event?

Stracco: Actually, we are not involved with the North American MINI Cooper Challenge. (my emphasis)

You won’t see us pursuing anything like the JCW challenge in Europe. Our main racing efforts are in supporting privateers through our contingency program. Eventually, we’d like to see something like Spec Miata, but with MINIs. NASA’s formula is close to that, so it is started down the right path, although, honestly I haven’t heard much of this class lately. Whether something truly national evolves out this, or Phil’ Wick’s series or out of some SCCA class yet to be defined, remains to be seen.

That's funny support us through contingency programs. HA HA Where is the contingency money at then??? I could sure use some. I had emailed Jeff earlier this year before the series even started and he said they were not interested in providing contingency for racing unless it was for Solo 2. So I said MINIUSA.com won't be on the car, as it is a requirement for Solo contingency.

And if they want it to develop like Spec Miata they need to see that Mazda is a huge support for them.

There is money out there but the rules make it REALLY difficult to get any. See link http://www.miniusa.com/link/motoron/freestyle

I'd bet you would have a better chance of getting some prize money if you actually had a competitor. I know I would donate a pulley to see you run against Brian, What do you think

OUCH, That's not what Phil has been saying since the series started. I guess this explains why MINI USA is never at any of the races.

It would be nice if Phil took an active role in this board..... if I felt I knew him I would be more inclined to support and maybe try racing ..... why not a colum on driving tips...... "this is how to take turn 4 at X race course" the topics are endless.... get people interested in the track...now it seems like the dominion of a few even though I know it is open to all...it doesn't feel from the board here like family just bickering and I for one own and love my Mini as a respite from all the daily bull *****...... I don't want Mini ownership and my participation to add to it...it is supposed to be fun (for the non pros) I think a guy like Phil (maybe someone else) for a few hours a week could do a colum on technique etc.....it would at least expose the target market of MINI ENTHUSIATS to possibilities...maybe not only encourage drivers but more spectator involvement.

how about "the real cost of racing thread" what does it cost? how many clutches? what about brakes? do you blow engines? etc...etc.... no disrespect to onasleds thread, but he is a competitor..... Phil would be great because theoretically he is neutral... this would not supplant onasled in no way ..... this would be a nice addition colum from an expert.

Mini USA has no money in the budget to support the series.

On that note, just wanted to thank George at Mini-Madness for his support on the last races, especially in person at the track with Brian & Jason.
Regards,

No there isn't any money to run NAMCC. If you read all that page it is only for NASA, SCCA, NHRA, or Speed World Challenge that you can get money and you need 10 people per class.

Dont know about the madness hit, but the helix uses a oversized pulley.

You an I both know you wouldnt need much to be as fast as me. Get a tune, pulley, and a header and come and chase me . You basically have the series locked in points wise, so why dont we make the next race more interesting! Lets get Phil out to Carolina too!

I actually have a net. We always ran Spec Miatas (hard top included) with restraints instead of nets - SCCA. A lot of the competitors do. I'm sure it varies by region, as many of the items often do. They are certainly as safe as a net.

My point was just that we are safe, if only by the definition of NASA and SCCA (we tech for both as well, and can sign off new logbooks for NASA in the Colorado Region). I'm not sure if Schroth is even using the same set up as Simpson, but I certainly know plenty, if not most, of the folks out there are using Simspon and the equivalent for belts, and ours are set up as instructed (and as I've seen in just about every other car out there).

This is just posted as general info - not to you in particular Steve .

As far as Brian getting more competition, we would be all for it! We have actually discussed ways of making that happen.

MINI USA and Phil have been working together. The poster who said MINI USA doesn't have enough money was spot on.

I'm going on vacation now!

Its not a matter of cajones . We would prefer to not have our sponsored cars compete against each other at this point. Brian will have his hands full with Matt in any event

Let's be honest George....he doesn't want your pulley, when he can have ours. And why would he change a strategy that guarantees him a trip

How or why do you or should you collect points when no one else races in your class?
