Octane Motorsport MINI takes third position at Shannonville
The bright orange MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works #47 was classified in 3rd place during the running of the CRDA “Shootout at Shannonville week-end” which was held on Sunday June 4, 2006 at Shannonville Motorsport Park, located east of Belleville, Ontario.
The one hour enduro results brought the championship lead in the T2 class of the Ontario Touring car championship to the team. The team used the open testing day on Friday to fine-tune the car's set-up, since this was the first time we had a chance to test the car at Shannonville since building the race MINI last year. This proved to be very useful as all our running on Saturday was under damped conditions. Some cars were able to qualify much faster during the Saturday qualifying session as only the first 3 laps were run in the dry. The Octane Motorsport MINI still managed second fastest time in class, but would have to settle for 14th overall as a starting position.
The set-up chosen on Friday proved useful as the MINI Cooper S JCW’s out-handled a lot of the faster class cars. We would have finished 6th overall on a field of 20 cars, but we were penalized for crossing over the blend line at pit exit, during our mandatory pit stop. As a result, we lost second place class finish and were relegated to third position.
Next event is the Canada Day Grand Prix of Ontario on July 1-2 at Mosport International Speedway, just north of Bowmanville, Ontario. The event is organised by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC)

Actually it's not as easy as it sounds. As far as your friendly border guards are concerned, this car was never born. It was built from a fresh shell. If they are talking about not letting a Canadian in if he doesn't have a passport, I can't see them accepting a car without papers. Not to mention that I don't have the budget for the trip...

Can you ever make it to the states to come racing? I know you mentioned some customs issues in a previous post.
One of the events I most want to do is Targa Newfoundland - I will get there someday once I can find the $5Gs and the time to go do it...
