Quick update.... it's been waaaaaaaay too long of week and I am thrashed

the RMW cars took top times between the Focus/Mini group with Sean beating them all on street tires He had the slicks sitting there just in case they laid down a faster time. We will post up some pictures later. The Street tuner winner (Ford Focus) was there but failed to run properly. I would think at least 4 Mini's had faster times.

Sean
Jan
Danny
Goaljnky..... good driving chief..... Minus the fantastic spinouts that I missed

I've got a bit o video that needs to be processed.

But I'm as slow as a [fill in the blank] when it comes to doing this so it will be later in the week. One of the bits will be Jan leading a 3-series track machine on the main straight.

For some reason, the Beemer can't get by!

Heheh, yeah.. I guess eventually everyone spins out. This was my first. Going into the dirt sideways at about 100 mph was scary to say the least.

Let me get a plug in here for RMW. I got to experience first hand the difference made by Jan's tune. I ran the car with exact set up as last time. Same tires, suspension settings, 100 octane gas, etc. The car is an 06 JCW. The only thing different is a new tune done by Jan. The over all difference was 1.5 seconds improvement around the track.

For those that are familiar with SOW running it CW, before the tune coming out of the bowl and hitting the back straight, I was able to get into the 4th gear towards the end of the straight and stay in it for about a second and a half before dropping back to 3rd. After the tune, I was able to get into the 4th gear about half way into the straight. Good 200-300 feet earlier.

Pretty scary coming out of the chicane with no power when you need it to come out of the hard left turn. I was losing 1-2+ sec a lap depending on how long the limp mode stayed.

There is always next time .... Overal a great time, didn't really get to meet many people we went over to the STC tent but they looked pretty busy trying to get the car to run. We look forward to spending some more time with you guys at the next event. Come on over and say hi.... we don't bite..... really! End Quote

I think they are talking about me here. That sounds like my preferred line:

I didn't see it as an excuse. Sean's time beat all of the Foci times there and he did it in a daily driver that he drove there on street tires. He didn't even put the Hoosiers on. What excuse is needed. They even got their own run group with lot's of space when they did the challenge run. Sean did his time in a regular run group.

sounds like you guys had fun. I was on the east coast at a small track called CMP with NASA. Good times except for one Sti driver that got airlifted out :-( one flip and cartwheel later. He is still alive. No saftey gear at all.

I'm confused. MINI's said they were fastest. Now the Focus group is claiming they were fastest???

Should be easy enough to figure out once the times go up.

OMG, Focus faster than the MINI?! Musta been sun spots.

If nothing else, cars / drivers are closely matched. Good competition.

Could have been. Were you in a black Mini? There were two chasing each other on that lap, one passed me in the middle of the horseshoe, and the other going into the bowl. I was not in the GTI, but with a student in his black Focus sedan. They were clean passes for HPDE 4, but pretty balsy for an open track event. No worries though. It's a non-issue as long as everyone comes out clean.

I ran my stock 08 GTI 4-door with 2500 miles on her. The best I could pull was a 1:34:??? on the stock tires. I gotta get a tune and a limited slip in that hog!

sounds scary.
THSCC had a good weekend at VIR only a couple grass fires from a couple cars going off course.
I got to lay down a couple good laps on the full course with my best time so far @ 2:27, I think I left at least another 8 seconds on the table, I will be doing the Tracqmate analysis to see what I have to work on, I know that I have to improve on the uphill esses + I think I left a few seconds in the roller coaster, I will see you in a couple weeks at the NASA event. GPS recorded top speed on the back straight 132 MPH

Must've been someone else. I was in a green mini with big "06" on it. I guess someone else is driving my line. Impostors.

Stone, I hope those times at VIR are in your MINI and not the other car. My fast laps there are 2:24 with a clean lap. I'll see you in two weeks up there. I've got some new Ho Ho's but i'm saving them for the following weekend with the BMW club.

Bad weekend for STI's. We lost one at The Streets on Saturday as well, cartwheel style too. Driver and passenger were alright, except for minor injuries.
