2012 countryman all4 s engine noise

Help! just bought this car and the check engine light is on
im concerned about the sound and wondering if it’s normal or not. Thanks in advance!

That is because the car is on and running lol. Does anyone else hear anything?

If you have a CEL then you should buy a code reader or go to a place that will read the codes for you. Then post the codes here for people to help.

What code reader do you recommend?

The Foxwell NT520 is my personal choice. It is a newer generation than the NT510/Schwaben tool that most recommend. I got mine off eBay for $135 shipped.

Codes from autozone
p0456 - evaporated emissions system very small leak
p052b - coldstart intake A camshaft position timing retarded

The person who had the car before me installed a new camshaft sensor but broke the bolt. *♀️It needs drilled out or I need a new valve cover.

P0456 - evaporative emission system very small leak
P052B - cold start Intake (A) camshaft timing retarded

the person who owned the car before me replaced the camshaft sensor but broke the bolt. *♀️
It needs drilled out now or I need a new valve cover. This could be causing the CEL, right?

Sounds the exact same as my '12 CM S

I got 4 codes
3 were evaporative emission very small leak
1 was coldstart timing intake (a) camshaft timing retarded
p0456 and p052b

The evaporative codes could be as simple as your gas cap. Perhaps the p052b is causing the noise you're hearing. Where did you just buy the car from?

Take a look at this thread for the p052b code

I bought the car from private party. No warranty or anything. Changed the oil and the CEL is off for now. I’m paranoid about the the timing chain. I may just change it so I can forget about it!
