I coded my full time tach speedo out. Maybe it is having a MINI for so long, but I instinctively look to the center. It drives me nuts to drive my wife's traditional subby

SO not to hijack, but, WHAT does that Icon with the ! in the middle of it mean when I start my car, it shows up in that same place for a few seconds and then disappears?

Its not in the book...

According to the book, it means you have an exterior light going out

Well I got a funny story for you guys I came back from austin to philly on a trip I lived in the hills out side of williamsport pa. I knew I had very little gas left and I figured I can make it to the fuel plaza on the turnpike so I take off from the airport cruise through philly get on the turn pike and bam!!! My light comes on I got 35 miles left on the tank an im thinking I can make well I keep driving and again light comes on I got 10 miles left in the tank and I see I have 20 miles to the fuel station. Im sure you guys can feel whats going through my head right now. So I stomo on it and go for it my car tokd me I had zero miles left in the tank and there were no more notches I cruised about 15 miles like that and made it. Dont freak out when you think you have no gas the mini will suprise you.

I have a 2012 and I experienced this same issue where I got the initial warning and cleared it but found it returned a few minutes later.

Here is why it happens:

I slowed down and drove more responsibly after clearing the warning. This caused my remaining miles to go from 35 up to 39-40 and the warning would only return when I stepped on it and the miles remaining dropped back below 35.

Mystery solved...You're welcome!

I absolutely LOVE what the engineers have done with the Mini's BUT I must agree with the Gas Can complaint. It is so annoying! If I want that information displayed, I'll ask for it. Give me a warning, but GO AWAY. If someone figures out how to defeat that, please share! 2011 JCW Mini

I never run my fuel that low but if, by accident, I did, I'd just rely on my analog speedometer till I gassed up.

Same with my 2014* - the speed will be displayed on the line above the odometer with mine as well when there is something else occupying the square display where the speed would normally be shown. You don't have to wait for the low gas warning to verify this - you can toggle the DSC to DTC mode in which case "TRACTION" will be shown in the upper display, or turn off DSC altogether in which case it will show "DSC OFF". In either case the current speed should get shown on the line above the odometer.

I should add that, in this case I have the opposite problem as you - I lose the distance to empty.

(* I'm not in North America which might account for the difference in behaviour)

I tried switching the DSC to DTC mode as well as completely off, and while what I said earlier regarding the line above the odometer changing to show the speed is true, in both cases the speed readout eventually returns to the normal spot in the upper display after a few seconds. I'll have to see what happens the next time I run low on gas.

when the low fuel warning comes on, just push the "bc" button on the end of the stalk once to acknowledge the warning and the display will return to normal

it will come back again and again until you fillup, but each time you can push the "bc" button to return the display to normal

^^ true, except that after a certain point (<30 miles?) it'll do it about every 10 seconds.

It's one of the very few things I HATE about my JCW CM. The tank on this thing is just too dam-n small for travelling any significant distances. It's absolutely stupid to be always hunting for gas stations. I would love to see 600-700km of highway cruising on a tank of gas when travelling at speed ........at a minimum.
