rock, windshield = $430

Rock bounced off a f150, caused a nasty crack in the windshield of my countryman.. One of the moments I wished I had a dashcam running.

I snapped some photos of the removal for those interested..

Safelite's not going fix that one.
LOL

$430? Why didn't you use your insurance?

drsimmons 02-27-2012 05:00 PM

If his insurance is like mine, I have a $500 deductible. Doesn't that shoot the insurance?

$500 deductible I'm guessing?

daflake 02-27-2012 05:24 PM

Ouch! Well, that is why I carry a lower deductible.

I have $500 deductible for everything except the windshield, that is $120.

Check With your agent.

Not to be a jerk but I wonder how much of an exception we are here in Florida. Windshields are free no mater who you use for insurance.

It varies from state to state. In Mass, I paid $100 where others were free. here in MD it is my deductible. I would highly recommend that the OP check with their insurance. In most cases a claim on comp won't raise your rates either. Never hurts to ask and save the coin.

Glad I saw this thread. I checked my insurance. I have a $500 deductible but on glass replacement there is no deductible. Yea!!!!!!!!!!

I guess if you had the heated windshield, the bill would be in the $1K range

I highly recommend you have the MINI dealer replace your windshield. You will get an OEM windshield and it installed right. My daughter had a crack in her 2009 Cooper windshield, Safelite was the preferred glass company for my insurance (no deductible) and the dealer was willing to take what Safelite would pay for it. She had to pay up front and be reimbursed but it is well worth it. For whatever it means, the windshield at Baron MINI in Shawnee KS was just over $600, she was up in Arlington VA area and the Safelight price there for OEM was over $900. Originally dealer wanted about $1,100.

You can get good glass (PPG or Pilkington) via Safelite, but you have to ask for it. If you don't, they will use cheap glass. The up side to the dealer is that they have the clips and proper tools available.

Just to clarify, the two companies that I mentioned are the ones that make glass for MINI.

I think the PPG is better glass then the OEM glass.

Depending on who is supplying them at the time, the glass you have might be PPG from the factory. My understanding is that PPG and Pilkington are MINI's suppliers.
