rear door won't open from inside

This just started recently, where the drivers side inside rear door handle doesn't open the door. It's only the left door. The handle doesn't feel like it's engaging anything mechanical at all. It acts like it's not connected to anything inside the door. How could this just happen all of a sudden?

not sure if its on the countryman (though its on most cars these days), but did you accidentally hit the child safety lockout switch? without actually looking at my car, assume it would be near the actual latch on the door in question.

Definitely sounds like the child lock.

Already read the manual a couple times. The child safety switch only seems to affect the window operation. Any other ideas? I really hate to take it to the dealer for this.

Open the door, and look on the side of the door itself (metallic side). There should be a switch there.

I think the button you toggled is the window control lock on the dash.

 That was it!!!!!!!!! I had no idea that switch was there. Thank you so much!
