can low oil pressure cause full power not available engine fault light to come on?

2011 Mini Cooper S

I was driving my daughter's mini and my oil light briefly went on. When I got home, I forgot about the light since it went off. Now she tells me that the oil light flickered occasionally and now the engine fault light came on, indicating full power not available. I added 1 & 1/2 qt of oil, drove it 3 blocks and the engine fault light went off. I continued to drive another 45 minutes without the light coming back on. Any ideas / experience with this scenario? Seems to drive ok, but did not push the car. Probably should take it in for diagnostics? TIA

Keep a close watch on the oil level, if it is not consuming oil very fast, I'd say you are OK.

Running a MINI low on oil is one of the worst things you can do to it.

That young lady needs to learn how to take care of her ride. She should be checking ALL the fluids on a regular basis. These MINIs are not 'drive 'em and forget 'em' grocery getter appliances.

1.5 quarts low on oil shouldn't be enough to trip the low oil pressure light, usually that you've got about 2 quarts of oil left in the car when that light comes on around corners or on grades.

If the half power light came on there is a fault that needs remedied, I would find a reputable shop to do the diagnostic.
