Well, not really exploded, more like the back **** fell off, and the two side clinchers came off too and half the plastic teeth on the gears are gone... it's essentially broken now

So what, does MINI expect us to buy these every year? Any good other better built alternatives?

Mine lasted less than 2 hours after we bought the car. Our friend was messing with it and broke it. I have since put it back together a couple of times, but have never used it as I have the center arm rest so there really isn't a good place to put it anyways.

Shouldn't that be under warranty if you bought it with the car?

I never really thought about that being something under warranty. Hmm, maybe I will mention it whenever I make it in to get the trim replaced.

Should be under warranty, just like the visor vanity mirror doors that break off, I've had those replaced under warranty.

Mine Too! When I threw my computer bag or gym bag on the back seat they bump the cup holders between the rear seats. The tabs on the bottom of the cup holder break where they insert to the slide piece that attaches to the rear rail. I was going to ask the dealer on my next visit.

They covered it under warranty. My MA said that that part has a two-year warranty that resets every time it gets replaced. So, technically, you can have a free supply every time it breaks for as long as you own your car until they improve the design.

Mine original one barely lasted a year.
