Oil Control Valve Failing @ 58500 Mile

My r60 is in the shop. Oil control valve starting to fail. Oil is creeping up the wiring harness. Carchex warranty is saving my bacon again, but not fully this time. They are covering a labor rate of 140 per hr plus parts rental car etc. Of course MINI here in the bay area has a Hr rate of 195. We settled on a rate of 170, So I am going to cover 30. Five hr job is an additional 150 on top of my deductible of 250. 400 Out of pocket Worse case scenario. I have a complaint in and they may cover the full 170. Will update. If you were debating a warranty for your MINI I still think its worth it. So far The warranty has paid out 2400 I paid 2150 for a 60 k 5 year warranty. Is it flawless no. It is better than noting, Motor on.

And if your driving a R 60 please get your control valve checked if the oil creeps up the harness it can fry the computer out which start at 5-6k. No Labor LOL:thumb sup:

I believe it above oil pan on the passenger side. Please someone else chime in here. I am a novice at best. That's why my MINI is in the shop. I was also advised that if you see small oil spots on the passenger side firewall its a sign it is going. Mostly sharing as a fyi. Please chime in if someone has more technical info.

Thanks. This is the first I've heard of this... i'll have to check the passenger side firewall. Wonder if it only affected certain years, you know like how they 'fixed' it after 2012 or so.

Project Mini is home

Oil change, Coolant Flush, and Oil control valve repaired.
Back to Mobbin, Dippin, Divin Whippin and Skippin!
These lil bastards can cause some headaches.
One thing I am sure of I did in fact get the right MINI for me.
The countryman is my preferred model. After a solid week in the
MINI S Hatchback Hard Top I can truly say I got the right one for me.
I may even think of getting the newer larger MINI in a few years. If this
ongoing maintenance battle doesn't wear me out.
As for the Oil control valve I would recommend doing some research if your an early R 60 not sure where and if a cut off would exists the MINI Service Adviser was tight lipped. Wish I was more of a MINI Tech so that I could assist with the how to. For now all I can help with is a warning of what I've found.
And with that good buddies. I'm Out!
****Downshift Vrooooooom!****
