Cup Holder Rubber Disc Inserts (51-16-9-811-184) $5.69 each

Ofcourse I should of looked a bit closer before dis-assembling
Center Trim Panel, Part # (51-16-9-811-185 is for a non-nav. console....

Oh well, did a bit of house cleaning while everything was apart
I believe the correct part # for the center console with connected/Nav.
(Joy Stick) is 51-16-9-811-186, but I will confirm that with parts tomorrow..

Other than that it fit like a glove...the cup holders are noticeable larger without the spring like clips of the older style, but with new bendable rubber tabs...

Attachment 78244
Attachment 78245

By chance anyone install a center console with the connected/Nav. Joy Stick...
Did we need to order part #51-16-9-811-185 also?

Michael

185 is for MINIs WITHOUT MINI Connect only. 186 is for MINIs with Connect

I didn't take pictures during the process but here's the before and after... original cup holder on left, 2013 cup holder on right.

My parts came in this morning (thanks, Sewell!!!), and I got my new cup holders installed.

It was very easy. The only difficulty was removing the cigarette lighter plug. There's a plastic nub on the orange plug housing that sticks out pretty far. You really have to push hard to get the nub past the hole. Same problem getting it into the new console. But it eventually goes through.

The shifter trim ring is black instead of gray, but that's fine with me. Looks great!

I got mine from Sewell today as well (also got the Mickey piece but no side vents). I came in here to read directions real quick before I do the install.

All of our cup holders shipped the same day. You guys must live closer to Sewell.

I can't wait to get mine installed. I'm so tired of crushing drinks to get them to fit or having them fly out of the cup holder onto the passenger floor.

Oh heck, gonna have to make a call and do some complaining. I ordered my cupholders before you did and mine are still listed as expected 8/2/2013.

I assume that you have the NAV option. The rest of us don't and they received a ton of the "185" parts but they only received 5 of the "186" parts for the NAV. The one time it paid off not to have the NAV option

Really easy install, ~15 min or so. Then I went and got smoothies, which is normally a major pain getting them in the cupholder. Not anymore

If anyone's interested, the old trim ring fits fine, if you prefer the gray or want to save a few bucks.

Thank you for everyone's continued patience!

The above is true, we received a whole batch of "185" pieces and immediately sent them back out to you guys.

When we inquired with Germany about the NAV option - "186" they only stated that their shipment was "Overdue" with a large backorder list.

Please feel free to contact us at anytime if you have any questions!!

Thanks! I ordered the parts few months ago, when I followed up on my order my parts shop said the black ring (51-16-9-810-002) was no longer available , so they sent the gray ring one with the chrome at no extra charge. I didn't like the look, I'm glad you mentioned the old one fits.

Great mod, inexpensive and easy to install!

This is so funny because I had even got in the habit of buying a particular brand of water knowing it was one of the few bottles that fit the front cup holders. So glad Sewell has the parts as they gave me awesome service for my last purchase (chrome air ducts).

I believe it is lit up for a certain amount of time. I can't see how you could mess something up as the instructions did not require you to unplug the shift light itself. And to answer your second question, the new shift ring only comes on black. Not sure of MINI will offer a different color later on.

Three thumbs up! It took me about 20 minutes and solved so many problems. In Jay-z terms, I am easily down to 87 problems or so.

Thanks for doing the write up.

Just did mine in about the same amount of time . Probably could have saved 5 minutes if it wasn't for the dang accessory plug and that orange piece. It is amazing how big of a difference just very small changes in depth, cup diameter and placement makes. A 32 ounce big gulp fit no problem. A 44 may still be a bit tall and interfere with the seat heaters, but not as bad as the old style.

Now I just need to get the clutch changed out and it will be perfect. Ok better.

Finally got a chance to get the new cup holders installed, very happy with the result. I don't really care about the trim colors so I'll likely stop there, but now I can put water bottles and whatnot without worrying about them falling all over the place.

Finally had a chance to get to my dealership as my check engine light has been on since the Cape days....Didn't want to tie up a loaner for what they thought should be minimal time to do a system check and reset the engine light as other than that, it's been running awesome.....Not so simple as the cooling thermostat was throwing all the codes/faults...to a tune of 255 times.
Anyways they replaced it for the 2nd time....As I had plenty of time to kill, took a walk over to parts....and sitting waiting for me with my name stamped all over it with every bit of German as well, was my new and improved 2013 cup holders...This time the correct larger console for connected/nav. Well worth the morning wait....

I know this is the wrong thread....But these led's finally came in. Anyone know how to remove them...manual says "See Dealer"
After these 4 marker lights and I'm all LED'd out...in and out !!

I got my parts in, ordered back in mid July. Install was about 20-30 minutes. I ordered the shift ring with the chrome trim insert. It doesn't have the indents the new black shift ring has, but fits and looks great. Doesn't interfere with larger drink cups either! I'm a happy camper now. :D
