USB and 3.5mm jack connection

I have the usb and 3.5mm dual jack connector for my iPhone but it doesn’t work. It charges the phone but the radio says nothing is connected. How do I get my iPhone to be plugged in to the radio ?

What are you using for the connection? You need to use one of the BMW / Mini cables that plugs into both USB and audio jack.

Is it genuine BMW Y-cable or a third party one? I've heard that some of aftermarket cables don't work as expected.

I have this in 2 of my cars now for almost 3 years.
I just put the stereo in Aux mode and my phone bluetooth connects and can stream anything and do wireless calls with it.
