Joystick usage for radio/nav (driving me bonkers!!)
So I just got my new to me Countryman S on Friday, and I'm very happy with it so far! However, there's one thing that's driving me absolutely nuts, which is the joystick. On the main infotainment menu, the options are laid out in a circular pattern, and rotating the joystick correctly makes the cursor move clockwise around the options. Likewise, turning the joystick left moves the cursor counterclockwise. However, when you are in a text menu, rotating the joystick right moves the cursor up, and left moves it down. This is the total, unintuitive opposite of what I was expecting. It's backwards from iDrive in BMW, as well, even though it looks like the menu design was heavily borrowed/influenced by iDrive (the iDrive controller rotates right for down, left for up).
Am I the only one this is driving crazy? Is there a way to code this out / fix it? I'd even take the rotation on the circular menu being backwards if I could fix it in the text list.
I searched far and wide for at least 20 minutes on this (and other) forum with no luck. Thanks!

I second your frustration. My wife just got a 2019 JCW to replace her soon to be returned X3. Between those two, and my M240i, there are three different combinations of controller behavior. Mine you turn clockwise and the cursor scrolls DOWN lists, and the map zooms IN. With her X3 has clockwise for scrolling DOWN lists, but it zooms OUT on the map. On the MINI, clockwise scrolls UP on lists, but zooms IN on the map.
Outside of some sort of "expert coding," my thoughts have been to swap the leads to the controller for the ****. At least that way, clockwise would scroll DOWN lists (used way more frequently), and zoom OUT on the map.

If you end up doing this, please let me know if it works... I had the same thought but haven't had the time or the guts to pull the joystick out and fiddle with it yet.

Hi, I have the 2018 MINI COOPER COUNTRYMAN F60 with 6.5" screen & a basic iDrive controller which looks like part #6317694 and the joystick can swing only sideways and my car system does not have maps on it.
I wish to upgrade to the fancy iDrive controller part #9332289.I wish to know if this would be a simple swap without coding?.secondly can some one help me with the steps involved to get this idrive swap done?.Thanks.
