Stuck driver side cv axle.

Hi,
trying to change axles on my countryman. 120k . I was able to get the passenger side out by unbolting carrier support. Was surprised it came out dry. The driver side is stuck. Cant get two prybars on it. Took the shaft apart so I am only dealing with the end . suggestions?

Should there have been fluid on passenger side?

Thanks.

They are usually sealed.

I used a ball joint fork separater and tapped on it while rotating the axle. It eventually came out. It needs patience and sime time.

If you're talking about the front drive shafts from the diff to the wheels, my driver's side would not come out. Luckily it was still under warrantee. Otherwise the bill to me would have been huge as the tranny had to come out.

That expansion clip design is absolute garbage. Just pops out my azz.

Finally got it out

Finally got it out with a homemade slide hammer.
that was good news. New axles from import direct purchase through O'Reilly were two short . part numbers bm 8061 and bm 8060. Driver side about 2".

They are ordering another pair in. Sucks car

down 2 weeks now. I didnt see any available on pelican parts. If these ones coming don't work, where else besides dealer? (3 hours away).

Any resolution? I was just about to order that 8060 for mine, but not if I am going to have the same issue!. Is yours an All4?

Near impossible to get out. I tried a rented slide hammer as well after taking off the old half of the axle...I think it was just too short. Gave up about 11pm. No amount of prying with the car only on jack stands will do it.

Just bolted it all back together with the cup still in the trans and carefully drove it to a nearby shop this morning. It wasnt too happy to drive without one CV, but was ok staying at about 25mph max. Guess we'll see how it turns out once I get the call.

Good news is the used axle I picked up is the same length as the old so they can stick that one in there. Its something like 25.X" vs. the 23 1/4" all the parts show, as noted earlier in this thread. Makes sense seeing as the CM is wider than a normal Mini.
Seeing how cuda has a 2WD base and I have a All4S, it appears (automatic trans-wise) they take the same CV shafts....but not the same CV shafts as any other Coopers as all the websites seem to say.
Happy to hear otherwise!?

I'm fvcked anyway. Shop couldnt get the thing out. Transmission shop is probably going to have to drop the trans to even try. Im at a loss here.

I dunno, I can call the dealer, but they are never helpful. There is always that "Service Advisor" wall between us and the techs.

edit : I took it home and filled the old cv with new grease and plopped it back in to the tulip still stuck in the trans. Zip tied the bish back on and it’s running fine now. For how long, who knows.UPDATE - since I never updated it. Zip tie didnt last long. Took it to a much better local Indy shop and they got it out for me. Put in the junkyard one.I was still getting vibes and noise and decided to check the other side...Yep. dry as a bone. Was the passenger side all along I bet. I ended up slapping new grease and clamps on both and reinstalled. Been a few thousand miles now and aside from some annoying vibrations now and then its driving fine. At least I know I can get the DS one out if need be (but that appears to be a dealer only part). I didnt take the passenger side one out but I think it can be replaced with that part-store version readily available....just not sure if I can get IT OUT...I "rebuilt" mine with the side still stuck in the trans :/

Pretty much certain OEM is the only option... I suggest just buying grease and clamps....They sell packets of grease and clamps at Napa. Open up, squirt the packet in, and reclamp. Done. Easy to 'rebuild'. I did that to both of ours and they have been pretty much fine since....some vibration here and there, but what can I do!
