JB+ and spark plug issues.

2016 CM All-4 S.
26k miles
JB+ Installed by my dealership at 5k miles.
91 Octane only. Usually Shell.
Denver area; so about 5200 feet of elevation.

Every 5k miles or so I get the dreaded sputter that comes from the plugs fouling. The dealership consistently pulls super-knock codes and finds fouled plugs.

The dealership has been great about replacing my plugs and ignition coils as the car seems to eat them every 5k miles. The dealership is also recommending removing the JB+ if it goes through another set of plugs. Bummer.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is there anything I can do to avoid going through plugs this quickly and having to remove the JB+? I love the extra punch it gives my Countryman.

Thanks

have you tried another plug ?

NGK 95770 ILZKBR7B8DG

i used these the last time i changed them on my '12 and i'm happy with them. plus it takes less time to change them on this car than it does to fill the gas tank. i regret getting rid of my JB+, even my wife noticed the difference in the car after i removed it.

Different plugs might do it, but I'd be concerned about warranty issues on any kind of engine damage. I'd pull the JB+ and wait if it was my car.

UPDATE: The dealer pulled the JB+ to see if my stuttering and loss of power was the JB+ or a problem that existed outside of the JB+. Well, 2 days in and the car feels, runs, accelerates like it did stock. No sputtering or hesitation, and no loss of power. Although overall the lack of the extra power from the JB+ is missed. Likely going to install another JB+ and see if that was the issue. Will update...

The JB+ isn't a great upgrade. It actually makes the car run a little more lean, which isn't too great since our cars run lean as it is.

MarioKart offers Manic and RPM ECU flashes, they're pretty popular. I had my ECU flashed by him, he's a great guy to work with. I'm also running a bigger turbo and few other upgrades to support it (see signature).

My suggestion would be to run the car stock without the JB+ and see if the Spark plugs get fouled. If they get fouled then the Spark plugs are probably improperly gapped (either too much or too small a gap).

I think the Stock Beru plugs are gapped at 0.75mm-0.80mm for stock Turbo cars.

If you going to put the JB+ back on. Do your self a favor and install NGK 1422 Spark Plugs. Make sure they are gapped at from 0.60mm to 0.65mm. If your worried about the dealers. Just swap them out for the Beru when your going to see them.

Let me know and I will give you a $200 credit toward a Manic or RPM Power ECU tune. Your Countryman will have more power, linear and no sputtering.

@MarioKart thank you for the offer. Can you explain to me the difference between the Manic and RPM tunes you are offering and the JB+ I have had installed? I liked the extra go the JB+ offered but clearly it didnt agree with my car. Thanks again and I look forward to learning more!
