MINI new Genuine oil is the shell/pennzoil branded as pennzoil in the US. Which after talking to the Pennzoil reps they decided to use pennzoil as its known more in the US.
I have used Genuine MINI- Castrol. 0w-40 Mobil 1, and the new Genuine MINI oil. All were fine.

Ive used Edge 5w30 in my 2012 ALL4S every 5k since new except for the 2 free dealer changes.it now has 75k. Mini Branded Oil used to be Castrol when I bought my 2006 R53. I'm told its now Penzoil in the US and Castrol outside the US. I think most any good synthetic with the proper cert's would be fine . You should use either the factory filter or a High end such as K&N. Don't use an off brand or the cheapest, they can collapse under pressure. Also the oil change interval recommendation's from the factory are BS. its not that the OIL breaksdown or doesn't do its job, synthetic will last quite a while. Oil does several jobs such as lubrication, but it also carrys away dirt and sludge and the tiny oil filters can only hold so much dirt and sludge. The dirt and sludge are what shorten the life of the timing tensioner, the Vanos and other parts. An Oil change is cheap insurance.

Do any of you get your oil analyzed? I used to do this on my Land Rovers. I would be interesting to see if the oil MINI dealerships use actually has a high enough TBN to last the 10K miles they schedule for changes. Also, my MINI dealer told me they use 100% synthetic for the oil. Does anyone know if that is true?

F60JCW, I just picked up my new to me r60 a few days ago and they have done there " certification process " on the car. I pulled a small sample of the oil yesterday and will be sending it off on Monday to have it analyzed. It's not that I don't trust mini. This is just something I do to every car I have bought. You would be shocked at some of the results I have gotten back. My 2014 VW Passat ( traded from the mini ) the dealer put subpar oil for the 1.8t motor that was in it. But as soon as I get the report back I will be more then happy to share my results.
As for anyone else who was wondering what oil I will be running. It will be Royal Purple in either a 5w-30 or a 5a-40 and a mini or k&n filter.
Don't ever skimp on your fluids!

Meets LL-01 and is a New, we are the Exclusive people to carry it in the USA. Big in Europe and Russia.
The newest version of the friction modifier, similar to the MOS2. Early reports show quieter running engines and better MPG
Liqui Moly has always been big for MINI in Europe.

I'm a new owner and went to your website to find what was available from my 2017 Countryman all4 1.5. But the Countryman was not mentioned, either in the 2017 or eairlier years. Am I missing something ?

We are in the process of updating to the F60 MINI Countryman, you can follow Red color fits on that link above for the F60. See the fits for the kits, if you just want the oil. You will need the 5 liter or the singles. 1.5L MINI will take under 5 liters.

I have been using the oil that BMW has recommended, Castrol Syntec, for the last twelve years until this last oil change. BMW changed to Shell, so our R53 now has Shell in it. I figure the manufacturer and the gurus at my very experienced independent MINI shop know far more about what works best than I do, so one can't go totally wrong with what's tested and approved. I followed the same philosophy during my former life in aviation and I'm still here to prove it worked.
FYI-I was duly informed that the Shell oil is not compatible with the previously recommended Castro blend and could not be mixed.

All Gen 2 MINI filters here R55-R61 models, Geuine OEM to K&N and everthing in between. OEM is also purflux brand. Most places dont have these filters local at quick lubes or shops. Used to work for a shop that also supplied quick lubes when they needed a euro filter. They dont carry many euro car filters.
