Symbols on the Key or whatever we call it.

OK, I have been driving my 2012 Countryman S for a few months now and I am learning to appreciate it.

One thing I haven't figured out is what the symbol to the right on the key or whatever we call it (what do we call it?) does. I am talking about the symbol that looks like an open hatch.

I would have assumed it unlocks the hatch, but when the doors are all unlocked, the hatch is also unlocked , and when they are all locked or only the drivers door is unlocked, pressing that icon does nothing.

So it never does anything.

Thanks,
Len

By the way, I did drive it on a thousand mile round trip from Chicago into far southeastern Kentucky a few weekends ago. I set googlemaps on "no highways." Those Kentucky backroads are what this car was made for. A delight.

Thanks,
Len

With everything locked, it is supposed to unlock just the boot. Then the boot re-locks automatically right after you close it. It is timed so that if you don't open it right away, it locks itself after a short period of time. That's the theory anyway and it works that way on our '15 CM and '06 R52.

That's how I thought it should work, but if the doors are locked and I stand back there and click it, nothing happens, so I just unlock all of the doors.

Thanks,

Like so much in life, all I needed was a little patience.
