To wave or not to wave

My wife and I just traded our 05 MCS for a 15 Countryman All4 S. When we had the MCS we waved at every MINI we saw and rarely received a wave back. Not a big deal...every one is different.
Now that we are in a Countryman do we only wave to fellow Countryman? All MINI's or just bag the wave thing?
Random question while bored at work.
Thanks

I normally just flash my fog lights at them. I've gotten a couple to do it back which is pretty awesome. I also got into 2 rev offs with a JCW and a S to see who could pop more in traffic. I'm sure people think we're no better than BMW drivers.....

I have received a few waves, but more often than not, other Countryman drivers aren't even looking when we cross paths, which is strange. I wave if they're looking.

There aren't very many of us, at least in my area (North Texas), so I'm always curious who's driving these rigs.

I'm no spring chicken, but I'm finding that most owners around here are a lot closer to collecting social security than I am.

rev offs - awesome

Waving is a great idea.

Minnie.the.Moocher 09-29-2015 10:47 PM

When I rode motorcycles I pretty much always waved or did the head nod. When I first had a BMW, early 80's waving was "in". Now, especially with Mini's where I'm at, they are all over the place. I might as well wave to people who are wearing black t shirts or have shaved heads. Being Mini isn't so special anymore.

If you wave and I see it I will surely wave back, but I'm not instigating it anymore.

I'm in North Texas as well, and have not received a wave yet in almost 2 months of ownership.
Everyone here in a MINI seems to be a middle aged woman, and does not care to wave. I'd figure that the younger males would be more likely to be in with the MINI culture, but it seems they aren't. Seems like MINIs are swarming around the MINI of Plano dealer, you'd think at least a few would be enthusiastic about it....

That said, the guy in the Eclipse Grey R56 S w/o stripes waving at you is me, and I will for sure wave to anything with a MINI badge, even the Countryman.
Wave back, dammit.

Living in a large city, I'd have huge shoulder and neck muscles from waving and/or nodding. Minis are everywhere.

The more unusual the car the more the waves. You should have been around in the mid 1900's when cars like the VW and Renault first hit our shores.

I can imagine you in your Mini like WAVE BACK AT ME DAMMIT!! WE'RE MINI BROS!!

Fly'n Brick 09-30-2015 10:02 AM

I'll always wave...except the three days we spent in S.F. Unbelievable the number of MINIs per block!
PS: My co-pilot got herself a CM this past spring and she always wave as well.

Here in the Northeast, every time I wave to someone in their car, I get a finger back, and I am not taking about thumbs up :) :)

Wish more people would wave, seems like since 2005 its fallen off. But when I return to MINI meets everyone waves :)

Qik420 09-30-2015 11:23 AM

Anyone who sees a loud gray clubman in South FL is gonna see an overly excited kid waving at them!!!

As the original OP I have an update - Stopped at a light in a dealer loaner (15 MCS) I got a honk and a wave! Granted it was another MCS but I am almost always the initiator so this was quite a shock.

Fly'n Brick 09-30-2015 01:24 PM

Got one 'Debbie Downer' wave once. Had to drive a Jeep sumptin' or other home for a loaner once and got a Jeep wave. Had nightmares for a week.

After nine years of ownership, I still wave. It is a rarity to see it returned. When returned I am flabbergasted. To those who don't return the wave, my effort then is a salute soley to their MINI and not to them. 'Figure most owners who hold their MINI with the same reverence as I do my weed eater will just never understand.

KeziaPurrs 10-01-2015 12:43 AM

Here in Houston I always look for eye contact and prepare to wave. I feel like other MINI owners go out of their way to avoid eye contact. I get eye contact from other car drivers but never a MINI.

mikey_t 10-01-2015 04:48 AM

Here in southern Ontario i wave if the other driver is looking and get a response maybe 1 time in 4. And more often if its another CM or Paceman.

Here in the Midwest, such a single digit gesture is considered a voluntary public display of their IQ.

CooperT 10-02-2015 07:59 AM

I wave. Got a few nods and a wave. I think I got them more when I had my R53.
