Radio powers up on test bench but not in car

Alright, we've gone through wiring diagrams for a couple of days here and are still struggling.

Car:
2012 Countryman S All4
standard boost radio, no bluetooth, no nav, no lcd screen

The picture shows the radio fired up on the test bench. Power on pin 15 and ground on pin 12. We verified power on the harness and even when we put the radio back in, it will not power up. I'm at a loss here. Is there something other than the 12V switched power the starts this thing up when all of the pins are connected???

Thanks!

If this is a replacement it needs to be coded to the car

I was thinking that it would power up and say "disabled" or something to that effect if it hadn't been coded. We had the battery unhooked for quite some time doing a clutch and when all was put back together, the radio simply would not even turn on. (did try the power button :D )

If the battery had been disconnected for a long period of time, is there a possibility that the radio "uncoded" itself from the system? I've heard that if you replace the radio, that it has to be coded to the system. How is this done?

Software coding by the dealer.
