Resonator Delete Review

So I just wanted to make a simple review for those thinking about removing the resonator.

Well I got it removed from a mufflerr shop for 35 dollars. The process took an hour and a half. I inspected the welding and it looked good.

Now to the sound.

The sound is much more mature and deeper. It is not in any way anoying at normal speed. You do here the engine more on inclines but its not bad. Just a deep sound.

The best part are te pops and crackes. They sound really loud now. The sound from starting in the cold is also really cool.

Anyways thats my review. If you want more sound for your Countryman, without spending big bucks try the res deleat.

Did you remove the cat too, or just the resonator? Stock system otherwise?

Do you get any drone ?

I know some people do this to the Clubman, another option is the Milltek for no drone and nice sound. Yes they have them for the Countrman S ALL4

I have a paceman with the stock exhaust and resonator removed (as far as I know it's the same on the countryman). Not really any drone, I didn't notice huge change volume wise, more tone change - deeper and throatier. Pop and burble is MUCH louder though. Let off the gas in the 2500 range and I've had people think my car was backfiring. It gets peoples attention and I've scared a few people in parking lots with it lol.

Video I took shortly after I had it removed, on cold start. I've tried to get a video of the pop and burble but it's too loud for the camera to pick up correctly.

I really like the resonator delete--throaty but still not loud.

Unfortunately, I live in Maryland which has state emissions tests every 2 years. Has anyone here with a Maryland-registered CM done the res delete? If so, did it pass or have any effect on the result?

As far as I know the resonator does not have an effect on emissions. It's purpose is sound only.

Taking out resonator only will have no effect on emissions.

I do wonder about folks who say there is no drone though. What about at highway speeds? I did this to a Honda once, 4 cyl. about the same length exhaust system and it droned like crazy. Has to put the resonator back. Passengers would complain. Anyone with this mod willing to go out on the interstate and do a sound clip? What about under load while accelerating?

I got the OEM JCW exhaust and the resonator was removed in the install. Before, my exhaust was virtually non-existant in any type of driving. The engine and road noise drowned out any sound from the exhaust.

I live in Colorado and right after the install was done, I did notice that I could hear a little pop and burble when the Sport button was activated and I let off of the gas... However, when I drove home to Arkansas to see my family at a lower elevation with the sport button on, the pop and burble was SIGNIFICANTLY louder. Much to the point that some thought my car was backfiring.

Obviously, the thinner air in higher elevation Colorado affects the exhaust note. The strange thing though is that it only does it with the Sport button on... It's really tame when it's off. I knew the Sport button tightened the steering and increased the throttle response, but I didn't think it was tied in with the exhaust in any way.

The 1st gen MINIs had the pop and burble activated all the time, it was removed for the 2nd gen with the N14 engine, and brought back with the switch to the N18 engine (around 2010 I think), but only when the sport button is activated.

It is possible you get a light pop or burble here and there when the sport button is off (definitly more noticeable with the resonator removed) if you hit it just right, I know mine does every so often. Sounds like it's backfiring with the sport button on though

Lol I know... If someone was driving a MINI for the first time without knowing anything about them, they'd prolly think it was breaking down on them and needed to go in for repairs.

I have been pleased with it though... It's not loud and obnoxious like some exhausts I've heard. It's very distinct but it just "goes" with a MINI. And for those who are wondering about the drone at high speeds, there really is no drone at all when driving on the highway or even accelerating up to any speed. From the driving perspective, it's only a very subtle difference in the exhaust note from the standard exhaust. The only really noticeable sound difference is when you let off the gas.
