Rolling back while in drive

I find that my AUTOMATIC CM rolls back while in drive even when it's not a steep incline. Is this normal? My previous MINI was a manual and it's been long time since I drove an automatic so I'm not sure. I really noticed it this morning when I almost rolled back into my Mom's BMW. I was in drive trying to pull forward (I've got to maneuver out of the garage). Our driveway doesn't have a steep incline my mom says it's not idling high enough (I think that's what she said, I could be wrong).

Is this normal?

My MCS does the same thing when I back out of the driveway. It is definitely odd. I have never owned an auto until this MINI, so I am in the same boat. I am curious as to what others have to say....

That is surprising to me being that the standard shift has the one second hold. I would have thought that feature would be in the automatic.

I went to the dealer yesterday for a car wash and was told that it was normal. I don't know I think it rolls back a lil too much.

I've seen this in many automatics....had a jetta that did it and a jeep liberty personally.....wasn't all the time but if on a steep enough slope, had a little roll back

My CM does it as well. I find that if I push the break hard, while at a stop, the hold feature engages and it doesn't do it. If I don't, however, I will get rollback. I used to sell cars, long long ago, and remember when one of the brands came out with the hold feature. In order to engage it you had to push hard on the break from a stop to engage. So, I tried it. Like I said, seems to work. I would be interested to know what others find when trying it.

My MkV VW GTI with the DSG auto did this. I guess it must be common among modern auto trannies.

'12 Countryman S ALL4 here. Mine does it. I was told by dealer up to 20% tire rotation is expected. Its my second auto trans and my previous was a truck that only on steep hills would lock upon roll, felt like an inch or two. this (mini) rolls back on different grades in a parking lot if its full and I'm waiting for a spot.
