New Brake Pads?

New Brake Pads?
I'm looking for new brake pads. Are there other pads other than the BMW's OEM one recommended?

I can't seem to find anything for the countryman yet...since the car's quite new? Can the R56's brake pads work on a countryman? Since there are tons of pads for R56's out there... EBC, Brembos, etc etc... I'm hoping for an EBC Red or Yellow stuff for my ctm!

thanks

I thought brake pads are covered under the maintenance plan the same way they are on our X5. Am I incorrect?

The pads ust be different from R56 cuz none of my normal shopping sites for BMW / MINI parts have pads listed for the CM. send them an email or all some of them and report back.

pads are typically under the 12mo/12k warranty as these are a wearable item. Im not sure if covered under 36mo warranty?
There is a prod. split on the 11' models for the pads. before or after 11/2011

For before, for OE type pads there is the OEM TRW, Textar or Bosch
for the 11/11+ there are oem TRW & Textar

the early pads cross fit to a bunch of cooper models,(so much for that working). the later design only fits a CM.

Correct, the brake pads are covered under the 36k maintenance program, but some cars may have exceeded that mileage already.

I did more digging and found Hawk and EBC options on OutMotoring:

http://www.outmotoring.com/home.php?cat=648

BavAuto, Pelican, MiniMania, and TireRack don't seem to have anything yet.

Out listed the pads & shows the cross fitment. Thats a bit misleading as the pads only fit upto 11/2011 on CM models. YES, the pads will fit the r53 CM, upto 11/11'. CM after that require another pad.

We're going to need new front pads and I just want a brand that doesn't cause so much brake dust. Man, the factory pads must be really soft.

Your comment is interesting because our CM is the only BMW/Mercedes product we have ever owned that has not generated excessive amounts of brake dust.

i have an 03/2012 build cms all4 and the oem stock brake pads produce virtually no dust ... i have the white turbofan wheels

the pads are trw brand

they also work extremely well, no fade even with very agressive use

TRW are good stock pads. BMW used to equip with ATE pads. Great. cOld bite but ridiculously dusty. Defining the black front wheel look of bmw's.

The only pad we have available for a '12 CM is, ironically, the EBC Redstuff. I'm not sure why EBC offers their street/track pad before their low-dust street pad (the Green Stuff), but that's what's available.

We have an '11 CM and a '12 CMS All4 and I will say this, the pads are for sure different. With the '11 we have to clean the wheels once a week, sometimes twice a week, depending on the miles driven,or else they are brown. My '12 I clean the wheels like once a month, if that. I do rather enjoy not having to clean my wheels as much, but between the 2 the '11 has more bite when you hit the brakes over my '12.

I agree.. My old BMW530xi wagon brake pads were crazy BAD. I think I had more dust on my BMW wheels backing out of the driveway then 1000 miles on my MINI wheels.

I own a Feb built 2011 CTM and It has tons and tons of brake dust. This is also the main reason why I'm heading towards an aftermarket brake pads.

Hope the EBC Redstuff generates equal if not, less brake dust than the stock ones

I would assume that is because there would be little demand at this point given that most CM's are still covered under the maintenance plan.

There are some OEM type replacements as I previously stated. The early model CM's pads cross reference w/ a ton of Coopers, so there is plenty of 'performance' options like Hawk, etc.
It appears MINI tried to use these on the new CM model & in Nov 2011, they switched Front pads. Likely due to the excessive dust & the fact that the much heavier CM was eating through pads so quickly.
So, the CM from 12/2011 & on there are more OEM type options, but fewer aftermarket.
I have a feeling the EBC Red were developed for the WRC editions.

Our 2012 ALL4 with OEM pads also produces very little brake dust. Must be a compound change from the 2011's. Brake feel is also very good.

I put the EBC Reds and slotted rotors on mine in September. Brakes better with less dust. EBC Reds with Ultimax slotted rotors are $300 for the fronts, $390 for the rears.

I was told that brake pads are not covered under the 3 year maintenance plan that we have as they are a wearable part, at least that it what I was informed when I asked the service adviser. Is Canada's maintenance plan different than US's?

I took a look at the Canadian website. It appears they do offer a full maintenance package, but in Canada it is extra cost.

Yep, we always get the short end of the stick up here. As for the large amount of brake dust, ours is a January 2011 build.

finally, someone else confirms what i have been saying!

i have gone up to 3 weeks/~1000 miles between washes and my white turbofan wheels have virtually NO brake dust on them, and the little there is wipes off with a dry rag

thanks DR61

Our current car is a May 2012 build, and our experience with brake dust is the same as Scott's. Unfortunately the car has had repeated electrical problems, and we are told it is being replaced by a 2013 in the next few days. Hopefully it will have the same brake pads
