In Europe, the CM diesel model is rated at 800 kg (1670 lbs) if I remember correctly

Go into the UK configurator, and one of the option is a hitch. LOL

"Towbar, detachable (S0235)
Trailer tow hitch with detachable ball head The trailer tow hitch with detachable ball head includes a trailer stabilization system, which recognizes if the trailer starts rocking, and automatically slows the vehicle. Vehicles with trailer tow hitches are fitted with stiffer suspension at the rear, and depending on the model, are fitted with a more effective engine cooling system. When the ball head is removed, the trailer tow hitch cannot be seen, as the socket and coupling are hidden behind a hatch. The ball head can be stored in the luggage space, beneath the floor mat."

And that is probably conservative. I heart diesel. I also heart euro style ball hitches.

Careful of the Thule Force box

A heads up for folks considering the Thule Force L for their CM.

I ordered a Thule Force L box from Amazon (good deal at $387 or so, no shipping) and installed it on new mini racks. The front edge of the box never closed completely, and opened slightly with just a touch. I called Thule and the technician told me there was a problem with the boxes (he called it 'fish mouth' which sounds right - it looked like a giant grouper on the roof!).
So Amazon offered to send a new one and pack the old one in the new box (i foolishly broke down the original shipping box).
So the new one arrives yesterday, and I open the lid of the carrier and find one of the hinges broken.
So that's been returned as well.
I'm glad to read that most of you have good experiences with the Thule boxes, but after two lemons in a row, I'm losing faith!
This is the first rooftop carrier I've purchased. The Thule seemed pretty flimsy - flexible. Are there more rigid boxes out there?

The one I have for my mini is a bit flimsy and the hinges do rattle a bit, I think that may be because of the option of opening from either side. Once loaded it's nice and sturdy. Thousands of miles and no complaints. We have a larger, longer Thule for my wife's Ford Fusion and it is stiffer and quieter, but can only access it from one side. Very happy with both

Thanks Flyer.
What model Thule is on your mini? Hope you had (or are having!) a great trip to the Cape.

We've had a great time...relaxing. A few wet days but to be expected.
The Thule box on the mini is a Ascent 1500... Tried to post a few pics of it attached but seems my ipad never lets me......

I recommend the Yakima SkyBox 16s for the Countryman. It is a little long for the Paceman but perfect for maximum roof box size on the Countryman. I was able to mount and open hatch fully. The
Yakima SkyBox 16s is also less than $500 and sold many places which made it easier to shop for and get the best deal. Easy to install with the quick clamps in the box and opens from either side.

I am looking to get a different Yakima for my Pacemen since I liked this one so much.

I have found the Rocketbox 12 to be a better fit for the Paceman so I posted the Skybox 16s in the classifieds if anyone is interested. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...kybox-16s.html
