R60 What is Your MPG

The best way to calculate true MPG's is to top off the tank and note the mileage on the odometer. Each time you fill up after that, top it off and note the gallons and mileage on the odometer. You'll end up with a list of odometer readings and gallons installed at each fill up. Just dividend miles driven by the gallons for each tank AND divide the total miles driven by the total gallons installed from the beginning to get an average MPG number. Actually very easy to do and spot on accurate!
I'm getting 29MPG on my 2012 MCa Cooper (not Countryman). It did improve slightly since new, but not much.

For the record, my R53 OBC is wildly optimistic, but my R1200RT is the most accurate (only 0.4% variation from calculated mpg!); the Countryman OBC is pretty good but still a bit optimistic. From my experience with owning BMWs and MINIs for the last 12 years, I have found that you can increase the accuracy slightly by resetting the avg consumption and avg mph with each fill-up. Though what is displayed is still a rolling average. Doing the hand calculation from receipts is still the best way to achieve the most accurate MPG figure.
Our 2012 CMS/auto/2wd has averaged 27.4 mpg in its 10,000 miles. Our worst tankfulls were in the mid 24 mpg range (during the first 2,000 miles) and our best was 33.9 mpg during a 5-day highway road trip this summer (~70 mph with A/C on). Average (calculated) mpg during the first 5,000 miles was 26.2 mpg and 28.9 mpg during the second 5,000 miles. So, yes, mileage DOES improve as the motor runs-in (though that may take 15-20,000 miles).
For comparison purposes, I also recorded what the Siemens algorithm produced. Overall OBC average was 28.0 mpg. First 5,000 miles OBC 26.7 mpg and second 5,000 miles OBC 29.6. Note that I have faithfully reset the avg mpg and avg speed at each fill-up.

29k on the car for 14 months. Have been using a smartphone App to track ALL fuel for last 17k miles and have gotten 23.81 overall. Mostly local driving. Highest was 30.44 for a 207 mile trip. Lowest 20.44. Most average 22-23.5. I am religious about using the App. OBC currently reads 23.6 for all 29k miles. Your mileage will vary and these weight losses are not typical.

Fuelly is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Fuelly History = lifetime 26.1 mpg I think I've logged all but 2 fuel ups (nerd-tastic!).

CMS, FWD. 3300 miles. First few tanks averaged 25-26. Now averaging 27-28. mixed driving, but I'm still heavy with the right foot. If my wife drove it regularly I'd figure I'd be around 29-30 mixed. I'm very pleased with the MPG as I came out of a Nissan Murano averaging around 17! So its a bit relative depending on what your used to. I will say my son is considering a Justa as his commute is 30 miles one way plus some travel for work during the day so he wants to get mixed driving into the 30+ or better.

All 4 S getting on average about 26-27 with mixed driving. I only have 1800 miles on it so far. On a couple long road trips, one with just the wife we got just over 30. Second one my sister and her husband were with us and it dropped to high 28s. It was a different trip but did see a slight decrease do to the extra weight.
Overall great numbers for the car's performance and useability. Try to find something that combines all three of those better then the countryman!

Bought my CMSA4 in July and got 29.5 pretty much all summer doing mixed driving. My best was 33 mpg on the highway. My worst was 24 mpg. With the cooler weather, it's down to 29 mpg and slowly falling.
I have a 2011 CMSA4 with manual transmission.

Just a note about 'city' driving. City driving in my town (relatively small) usually results in 25-30 mpg. City driving in the San Francisco Bay area may be in the 14-22 mpg range, depending on time of day. Just saying...
All my fill-ups are on Fuelly as well:
