question for all the CM Automatic drivers

when you put the gear into "D", do you lot see what gear your car is currently in? in my previous auto it would tell me what gear the car is currently in, whereas in the CM all i see is "D"..... ?

thanks

Just the D. But it's more fun when you see DS. Been a while since I used the paddle shift but I think it shows it when shifting. M1, M2, and so on.

Yes, as long as you are accelerating/decelerating. Otherwise it shows DS. Now, if you engage the Sport button, the "Mx" gear indicator will display all the time.

IMHO, I think all automatic owners should commit a few days/weeks to using the paddle shifters. Yes, it would be nice if one paddle upshifted and the other downshifted, but MINIs arrangement is fairly easy to get used to. I found it quite fun in the mountains with the transmission making the shifts in a surprising snappy manner. Of course, it's not a dual clutch SMG thing-a-ma-bob but is IS surprising fun!

Give it a go!

Why won't mini make the paddle shift one for upshifting and one for downshifting? Not the push pull confusing thing.

Anyone know the reason behind this? I want left for downshifting, right for upshifting

Allowing each paddle to shift up or down enables one-handed shifting, freeing the the other hand to perform other functions, such as adjusting the mirror or texting.

(Seriously, I agree with the left-down/right-up convention and do not know why MINI departs from it.)

Check out this diagram:

You see the two connectors for the shift paddles (assembly #4)? One might get a little creative and cross-wire things so that both buttons on each side either upshift or downshift. Anyone want to disassemble their steering wheel to try this?

thanks for the response guys !!

another thing ive noticed is that even after a short drive the fan remains on for a few minutes.... is that normal ?? after the fan goes off i can still hear a slight hissing sound, i assume thats the engine cooling down ?

have had the car for 2 days now, absolutely love it, havent really put my foot down only done 170 miles so far and taken it up to 60mph without over reving, waiting to get a 1000 miles or so on the clock first before i get a bit more aggressive.

only gripe so far has to be the fact that the wipers they put on the car are crap, they keep scraping against the windscreen, emailed mini sales rep and he says to come in and have them replaced, this is supposed to be a brand new car yet the wipers have scratches all over then ? got me paranoid thinking it might have been a used car sold to me as new hahah

Maybe patents and the cost of licensing the tech?

"D" is automatic thus noneed to show what gear. When you move the lever to the left you are in "manual" mode and the gear is displayed. You may use either the paddles or the lever to shift. Same sequence - towards you up shift, away from you down shift. The lever seems more instinctive to me.
