Peeling Chrome Trim question

This is a known problem and there has been discussion of a permanent fix in the works. We are on our second round of peeling chrome. They simply replaced the peeling trim with the same type of trim which is really a chrome tape over plastic trim.

Has anyone had the "permanent fix" applied to their CM?
Thanks,
CN

Perm fix is not out yet. I have gone through my second batch also. Eagerly awaiting a perm fix. Nothing like showing your new car to someone with the taping blowing in the wind.

In the meantime, instead of having chrome tape flapping in the wind (until October?), how do black it out like some folks have been talking about? Do you just take a black permanent marker and mark right over the trim, or peel the trim off first and then do it?

Just out of curiosity, what does the trim look like under the tape? Would it be best to just pull it all off (after dealer inspection of course) until the fix is in?

Just got mine off the dealer's floor and it was afflicted. The trim under the tape is a cream/beige color.

Do you think if you peel all the tape off it wouldn't look as bad with your Royal Grey since its cream/beige?

Based on what I can see of the surface below the trim, I think the beige color wouldn't look very finished. IMHO, it would detract from the finished look of the trim.

There is a glue residue on the beige trim and once it sits in the sun for one day it collects with dirt and dust particles.

Wait till the 2012 models see the hot summer sun. Then we will see if the problem is fixed. Mine didn't fail till they sat in the sun all day at temperatures over 95 Deg F.

www.outmotoring.com sells a blackout beltline kit for $12.95. It's a vinyl adhesive strip that affixes over the chrome trim. Sold for Gen 1, Gen 2, and Countryman.

I know some have used it but pesonally I haven't since I haven't had the peeling issue. If yours is peeling I would assume you'd have to remove the peeling part prior to installing the kit.

Looks good on their picture example.

All of my beltline chrome strips were replaced, and they seem to be OK.

Chrome wrinkles

My 2013 S has chrome wrinkled on headlight rings. The steering wheel badge is turning white. 33,000 miles, garaged and well cared for. So what's the latest fix. Any ideas?

Just replace the chrome trim around the headlights or upgrade to the Gray line or Blackline. On the beltline just comes in chrome, or you can cover it up with black tape, I have only seen early CMs chrome peal. Seems like once its replaced its fine,. On the badge, you have to replace the whole airbag which stinks. No sperate part #. Some places sell those aftermarket but i have never used one. I have seen some Gen 2 MINIs not do it after 100K and I have seen some like yours do it , my guess is it was batch by batch. Some people get a used airbag in good shape, but some want new as its a safety thing.

Tons of manufactures have issue with chrome or even brushed plastic, and that stuff is sharp as heck.
