More questions about the JCW muffler (that I don't think have been asked yet)
To my knowledge, there are three kinds of JCW muffler:
Part Numbers: 1) 18302239423 - JCW "stage one" muffler (without JCW body kit) - this version comes with nice, angle-cut, thin-walled tips that have "John Cooper Works" etched into them (tip part no. 18302151408). 2) 18302239424 - JCW "stage one" muffler (with JCW body kit) - this version does not come with any tips and will simply slip into the large thick-walled tips that are included with the JCW body kit. I believe this version is identical to 18302239423 listed above, minus the tips. 3) 18309809610 - Factory JCW muffler- My dealership has a factory JCW Countryman on the showroom floor. I was looking at the muffler - the tips are angle-cut and thin-walled like the JCW "stage 1" exhaust, but DO NOT have "John Cooper Works" etched into them. Although the diagram on Realoem.com shows the factory JCW muffler with separate tips, there is no part number for the tips, which leads me to believe that the muffler and tips are actually one whole piece (similar to the R56 factory JCW exhaust). Unfortunately, I didn't inspect the muffler closely enough to confirm. EDIT: It has been confirmed that the factory JCW exhaust tips are simply separate pieces bolted to the bumper. Those who don't like the round tips on the CMS JCW body kit should be able to replace them with the ones from the factory JCW. IMO, the thin-walled tips look a lot better than the large thick-walled tips that are included with the JCW body kit. My questions: 1) Is it now possible to order the factory JCW muffler (part no. 18309809610)? Realoem doesn't list a price, but I'm willing to bet it's much cheaper than the "stage" one versions. For the R56, the factory JCW muffler is a popular, cheaper alternative to the JCW "stage one" version. 2) Will the JCW "stage one" muffler tips (part no. 18302151408) fit through the JCW body kit, essentially replacing the large thick-walled tips that come with the body kit? |

i replaced the stock exhaust on my cms all4 with a downpipe back aftermarket system, the stock exhaust was 1 piece from the v-band clamp on the downpipe back to the welded-on tips
it is almost as long as the all4 and i had to remove several bolt-on cross-braces to get it out without cutting according to the parts guy, the system as delivered on the car is an assembly line only part, spares can only be ordered as the multi-piece version as shown in realoem or sewellparts i suspect the same applies to the JCW version scott |

Thx, but that's just a diagram of the "stage 1" mufflers described above. I've already seen those. Doesn't seem to answer my questions, unfortunately...

According to Justin at Sewell, the only difference if you want to use the JCW engraved tips with JCW rear aero pkge you have to remove the rear "finisher" inserts in aero pkge. They're bolted to rear frame and can be removed.

I just bought the "skinny" JCW tips, took it to a shop, removed a little bit of the chromed pipe that comes with the S muffler, then soldered another pipe of about 3" on each side and fitted the "skinny" ones, no noise, but you cannot tell the difference between that muffler and a genuine JCW appearance wise. My car is is the shop to install the JCW body kit. Will post pics after the car is done next week.

Where did you buy the "skinny" factory JCW tips? I called several dealers in the US, including Sewell, and none can source them. I even provided the realoem part numbers. MINI Genuine Parts UK has stated they can get them for me, but I'm still waiting for a follow-up.
Tailpipe tip, chrome JCW - NEW CI / For vehicles with JCW Aerodynamics Package Shipped $87.56 2 $175.12 If I had the car here I would post a pic. It has the JCW engraved on the top of the tip. |
Ah, I see. You bought the JCW "stage 1" muffler tips, which connect directly to the tailpipes. I thought you had purchased the factory JCW muffler tips, which are secured to the bumper (there is no contact between these tips and the tailpipes).

THe JCW bodykit comes with the large ones, but they are ugly compared to the 'skinnies".

I have a CMS with the JCW aero kit and am planning to get the JCW exhaust kit installed through MINI. I do like the look of the "skinny" tips with JCW engraving.
Based on info in this thread, would the dealer simply swap the tips for $175 extra? Does anyone know if there would be extra labor $? FYI my current quote is $1450 parts and labor (excl. the skinny tips). |
Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to fit the thin-walled tips (with "John Cooper Works" engraved) on factory JCW muffler. In other words, to fit 18302151408 on 18309809610. 18302151408 https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...6680c52aa2.jpg 18309809610 https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...d6e0ba43bf.png I currently have this problem and would like to ensure compatibility.. Thank you for your help ! |
