R59 Nuts in air cleaner

Nuts in air cleaner
Back into a Mini after a 2 year hiatus. Just purchased 14 Roadster S in great shape. Non mini dealer had it and said they had serviced it but I was not taking chances. Changed oil and filter and thought I better change out air filter. Removed air filter and had to do a double take as whole bottom of air filter housing was full of nuts. Previous owner must have had it stored somewhere. vacuumed them all out and everything looks ok. How did they get them all in there? Is bottom of intake wide open?

Yep, its happens. Dang rodents. had it happen on my gen 1 MINI. Here is some ideas on the install. The intake side has a flap that is open.
