Question JCW and/or Roadster Tach Trim Ring Style

Well, we took delivery last week of our 2015 JCW Roadster!

The trim rings on the tach and Openometer are chrome, although the rest of the dash gauges are the default silver. This is not what we expected, and it looks a little odd.

Our previous Roadster had black trim rings on the tach and that's what I expected here as well. The configurator shows them as black, and when you add the chrome trim package, the photo shows the tach rings as changing to chrome.

I'm trying to figure out if the factory made an error, or if the configurator was incorrect.

If it is chrome by design, that's ok, but I would have wanted to know that so we could have added the chrome trim package. Have an email in to our MA because we want to resolve this somehow.

So, JCW owners (especially Roadster or Convertible) - what trim rings do you have?

Thanks,
Don

the chrome trim around the tach/openometer is only available via the chrome interior package, which would mean the rest of your trim rings should be chrome. it sounds like they made a mistake at the factory. the chromline interior is usually a $150-250 upgrade at configuration, so if you paid anything close to that, you're definitely entitled to the rest of the chrome trim rings. however, if you actually didn't select any chrome interior option and the preferred outcome was black trim rings around everything, then unfortunately it will require the entire tach gauge to be switched out, since the chrome trim ring is non-removable/replaceable on that piece. in any case, i've found it not incredibly efficient trying to get MA's to respond to emails once you've driven the car off the lot, so you might see quicker results by calling them or just going back into the dealer.

actually, since there are no stock trim rings in black, like those that come on the tach, I would have to imagine it would look even more out of place to "downgrade" to the black tach/openometer rings, since the rest of the interior trim rings are that flat silver. basically, i'm suggesting you make sure to get the rest of the chrome line package installed. of course, that's just my biased opinion, since I've always been a fan of the chrome line kit, and I think its strange that MINI didn't update the silver trim rings along with the rest of the trim that went to flat black after the LCI update.

Nope, we definitely didn't order the chrome line interior, which is why I expected the tach trim rings to be black as they were on our previous (non-JCW) Roadster.

The email was just to get the ball rolling - going to follow up vis phone and/or in person as well.

Looks like the factory is trying to carry fewer different parts for the oider generation cars. If they give everyone the black gauges with the chrome rings then in someone's view everyone's getting a little upgrade, and they save money by just buying one part in higher volume.

If you want to get the chrome bits for the dash, I think most of them are on this diagram at RealOEM.

The three main parts (the air vents left and right, and the speedo cover, all with the chrome rings) are about $100 all told.
