Riddle me this, fellow Mini Riddlers: Is it possible to retrofit an R58 (with the traditional "dinner plate" speedo/radio) with the newer speedo/radio/navigation system? The size would seem to be the easy part; obviously, the wiring/electronics is another question all together. Has anyone out there tried making the swap?

 

technically yes, however it is complicated. It's not just the screen, there's extra controls that need to be added and a module or two, plus coding (messing with the car's programming, essentially)
There are aftermarket head units but they have their own problems. Admittedly, they can be resolved but having installed one myself, I'd not recommend it unless you're rather computer savvy and technically minded.
Most folks will benefit most from getting a good cell phone mount and using a larger cell phone.
