Oddball R58

Hey all. I finally pulled the trigger about a month ago on a 2012 Coupe S. It is my first time owning a Mini. I come from a background of numerous different cars. Most recent being an E36 M3, '89 Toyota MR2, 07 Mustang. This car is easily the most rewarding driving experience out of any of them. It seems to be quite the oddball build. (Pictures will help you understand). It seems to have been apart of Mini Takes the States 2012 (according to the badge).

Question for those running Stage 1. Is it worth it? I'm assuming it is. Just want to be sure before I pull the trigger.

Cheers!

Nice! I like the black and tan combo, very classy. I also like the silver Conical spoke wheels.

As for Stage 1 tune... Go for it! I have a Manic Stage 2, and the extra power make the car that much more fun to drive.

Thank you, sir. I think after a tune the wheels will be changed. Will likely post them up here if anyone wants them cheap.

I feel like stage one will be plenty for what I plan to do... I do a bit of autocross. Plus it feels a bit sluggish stock so yeah.

Yep, I was there in 2012 at MTTS. Some more info here. Pretty rare badge:

Congrats on the R58 and it looks like the rare perks are the NAV, oak wooden dash, and those seats.

I'd love to find pictures of it during that event but I have had a hard time finding actual coverage of it.

The Oak is great, and I am quite fond of the brown interior. However, I would have personally gone with Sport seats, the lounge seats just don't hug enough. I've considered swapping them with aftermarket buckets but I'd be scared if I could not get the color matched.

Yea,

Looks here:

http://livingvroom.com/2012/07/mini-...s-2012-photos/

Bet it was at the speedway since the car Might have came from down there.

Grille badges of past MTTS: This is all that left.

Yes it will be hard to match the color of those seats. WE have some aftermarket options here: Seats from OMP and then you will need HC/094, you will have to code out the airbags and the passenger OCC sensor.

It was originally a Massachussets car.

question?

why is it an "odd ball"

if one of the big MINI selling points is/are the millions of possible combinations ....

tan leather and wood grain was a combination I'd call 'classic' and I had in my 07-s

I say that because during my year long search for one, I never ran across any that were quite like it. Yes I understand that being the allure of Mini as a brand. I just assumed in my search I saw a lot of common combinations and never managed to see a R58 specifically in this combo.

I agree its a classic look. I sell Audi's for a living, its one of my favorites.

Compared to most cars and MINIs on the road you dont see R58s rolling around. And most dont have special interiors, I know when I went searching for my R58 JCW it was hard to find ones with polar beige seats. Most people got the cloth JCW or the leatherette. They were tapped out of money once they bought /ordered a JCW.

I tried to find some with the rare US recaros and people wanted big money for those cars. Then MINI discontinued them for the roadster and coupe' due to wear marks on the seats.

Mine has the factory Recaro seats which are black Alcantara. Are those pretty rare on Coupes? They cost $2700. Mine are wearing just fine. I know you can't get them on the Gen 3 Minis.

Yes, because you could get them then MINI NLA the option from the factory for the r58 and R59.

Yes on the Gen 3 MINI you can get them.
