Me too. I bought an R58 over an R56 this time partly because I see hard tops, clubmans and countrymans everywhere but I've seen just 1 Coupe on VT roads. I wanted something different from the norm.

I agree with this as well. Seeing a Coupe on the road is about as rare as seeing another MCS on the road when I bought my first MINI in Central PA back in 2003. My comment was an observation, not a complaint.

I've seen a few Coupes in Northern Virginia over the past few months, but I have yet to see a Roadster. Rare birds, indeed. I guess only so many people have the luxury of driving a two-seat vehicle with little storage capacity. Young singles, empty nest Boomers, and those who can afford a spare pleasure vehicle, I guess. Small demographic.

I know they are older comments, but the FR-S and Miata comments.... you can't actually be saying "well these cars are still doing well" in comparison. When someone is thinking of a small, fun, sporty car, and are settling on buying only 4 cylinders, are they really going to pick the front wheel drive over the killer good looks and sportiness of the FR-S, or the time tested and proven Miata?? No offense, because I caught myself eyeballing the coupe's until I saw their asking prices and all the rear wheel drive options in that bracket.
Now, if they made the roof less choppy and odd looking like it's broken in half and just sitting non top of the car, I'd probably consider it more. But it seems MINI is as interested in actual styling updates as much as Porsche ever has been.

Not sure why many hate on FWD.
If you get a base S, the price is a bit more reasonable. But it still doesn't help that they are priced like entry level BMW's lol
MINI is definitely a niche car.
But there are certainly more tuning options for that BRZ.

I've just had enough of the same old styling cues. It's time to shake things up and try something a little different and not as pedestrian as a Miata.

I agree that I like something a bit different, but something about the roof gets me, I honestly can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't flow.
And it seems the coupe typically costs more than the hatch. At that point, it's a different car, not just a less practical Cooper. They should have done something to sport up the front end. from the door forward, it's identical. I don't like paying more for the same drive-train, interior quality, styling other than roof line and rear end length, and lose the back seat. To me, that's why the sales numbers stay so small. And like it or not, call it "hating" or not, more driving enthusiasts prefer a RWD car when they're looking into a sporty vehicle. It seems the car has a very narrow market. BMW saying "we don't mind it being a niche car and we'll keep making it for the very tiny number of people who buy i" is their thing, and thinking that limited popularity=rarity in the same sense that limited production does can be your illusion lol.
Apples to apples pricing, I'd pick a coupe s over a hatch s. But an identically equipped coupe will always cost more for some reason.
