John Cooper Works Rear Spoiler

My friend Axel in Germany posted photos of the Coupe at the IAA 2011 on his bigblogg website. These are the clearest photos of the fixed JCW Rear Spoiler coming soon.

Cool. Wish he had a wider shot with it on the car. I'm satisfied with my spoiler that goes up and down :)

Cred 09-26-2011 06:55 PM

Looks pretty cool. Not sure I will be ready for that upgrade quite a while.

Zyamfier 09-27-2011 04:55 AM

Pretty sweet....wonder how that would look in Orange?

yetti96 09-27-2011 05:05 AM

Will the bottom one come up and push the JCW one up too?

jamesday24 09-27-2011 05:42 AM

No. The pop-up spoiler mechanism is either removed or disabled.

TheOfficeMaven 09-27-2011 06:08 AM

Sorry but the Coupe already has a bad enough rap for being ugly... I hope that too many folks don't decide to put that hideous looking eye soar on their Coupes or it'll never recover from being known as "the ugly MINI". Don't mean to offend anyone, but that's something that you'd see on a teenybopper's Pep Boys accessorized car along with a volleyball sized exhaust pipe coming out the back. Yuck!

yetti96 09-27-2011 07:06 AM

It needs stripes on it, opposite color of course.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree with your assessment of the JCW spoiler and the overall look of the Coupe. After seeing and driving the Coupe in person I have a new respect for the designers at MINI and their vision for the MINI brand. It's funny I've heard many people state when the new MINIs are first unveiled including the clubman, countryman, and now the coupe that they are unsure about the overall look. However, after seeing and driving these vehicles in person and testing the handling their story often changes. I think its because MINI pushes the envelope of automobile design just enough to make it edgy. That JCW spoiler flows with the design of the car while pushing the design elements. I agree with others that the original spoiler also looks amazing too, and it's bad ass that it adjust up and down. I would like to see more pictures too.

TheOfficeMaven 09-27-2011 06:26 PM

Well said Crayonman. Thanks for setitng me straight.

I really like the looks of the Coupe (in the proper configuration that is) and that's why I ordered one. Maybe that JCW spoiler will grow on me over time as well.

PatM 09-27-2011 06:50 PM

I think the stock spoiler looks more sleek and tuned to the car. I think the JCW would be ok but I really would like to see one in person. (Hey, much like the car itself.)

I wonder how it would affect resale value? What exactly is replaced? Does the actual Mini spoiler stay on the car and then the JCW is attached to the Mini spoiler? How is it attached?

Do you know if it can then be removed without destroying the Mini spoiler?

If it could be easily removed and put back to stock it might not be a bad idea.

Personally I don't intend to track my car so I'm thinking the stock spoiler will work for me.

jdurdick 09-27-2011 08:47 PM

Function over style in my book. I think the stock looks good but if this produces more needed down force and a improvement in performance its a easy choice for me personally. Thanks Axel for the pics

I agree. I'm not sure how much function it will give you in everyday driving. Not much I would think. If your tracking your car frequently on a road course where you can really make some speed with corners at speed then the real world practicality of it other than the cool factor is minimal.

Spoke (G+) with Drill this morning he thinks he has a photo from a stairway that he took. May upload when he gets home today.

Sorry for the delay folks, had a late day at work combined with having to pick my MINI up from the shop (Chad was right, AGAIN ).

Here are a few angles that I can add to the pics above:

Stairway shot (Boot closed)

Boot Open (Obviously)

Straight through (Tried to show how wing affects visibility)
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6158/...f3c9aaa9_z.jpg

Because... if you're my height, visibility could be a problem
(Just joking of course, it's no worse than the Cabrio)

The US NEEDS THESE SEATS!!!
(Gorgeous Leather/Alcantara Recaros)

Finally, a rear end shot... (I decided against using any butt-jokes )

There y'all go, I hope the pics help. I've got more but they're pretty much the same as others shown.

Having seen the Twins at Frankfurt in 2009 I'll just add that the production Coupe isn't much different at all but for me, the biggest improvement has been the JCW Wing. The "bump" on the std hatch looks fine when the retractable spoiler is up, but IMO it looks out of place when down. The JCW Wing really makes the Coupe look sportier and gives the rear end a defining feature.

Edit: Posted a quick video on Flickr here:

Thanks for the shots Drillslinger. Love it and just waiting to hear how much this is going to set me back. My presumption is the wing will be done in whatever color the roof is done with, though I must admit I was really hoping for the actual wing to be done in carbon fiber. The cf wing on the GP is one of most lovely things ever and I would have loved to see this done in this too. Do totally agree that while I like the spoiler on the production Coupe this really just looks good and should be a great help on the track.

To funny that you got a pic of the incredible JCW Recaro's that the US still a decade later gets left out of. I was talking to my MA yesterday and one of the first things I brought up was how out of this world the interior of the Coupe would be with the Recaro seats. I have considered spending way to much money to get a set for my GP but finally might have to order a set in for the Coupe.

PezRadar 09-28-2011 10:27 PM

Wow. Yea I agree that rear wing does look slick.

I still will miss the auto wing so I probably won't switch out. Thanks for the pics.

And YES the US needs those seats.. holy crap :P

Zyamfier 09-29-2011 04:42 AM

Dang it. Add another option to the list.

PatM 09-29-2011 06:23 AM

Are there any costs out for this spoiler yet? Any guesses?
The more I look at it the better I like it. It does in fact finish off the rear portion of the car and it looks even better.

jdurdick 09-29-2011 07:15 AM

My bet is going to be around 1k or even a bit over.

TheOfficeMaven 09-29-2011 07:57 AM

Just head down to your local Pep Boys and Manny, Mo & Jack can surely set your Coupe up with one for a whole lot cheaper than that. They probably have the exact model in stock in hot pink, fluorescent green or tangerine orange. I'm guessing $99 max!

TheGeekGuy 09-29-2011 08:04 AM

If I were to replace the moveable rear spoiler with a fixed one, I'd rather have the one off the Coupe Endurance racer.

:lol::lol::lol:

Manny, Mo and Jack. I don't think I have been in a Pep Boys in 10 years. Only 1 around my area that I know of.

That's pretty funny.

I like them all actually. I think they are growing on me. It still doesn't mean I will change form the stock spoiler. But I do like them both.
